Hi All - I service 2 ex-Hertz rentals for friends - a 2016 Altima (95K) and 2017 Sentra (35K).
Both 4 bangers with CVT transmissions.
I have not seen the Nissan recommended mileage intervals...
I figure 6K OCI's with 0w20 Synthetic HM and Synthetic oil respectively.

I will use any 0w20 on sale or the new Wally World stuff.
And any decent filter; I ain't choosy.

Your thoughts?
Long time Nissan owners are especially welcome to chime in.

I wanna get this right cuz I don't wanna hafta buy any more cars...

UOA - Good idea; but I am 2 cheap...
Least - no help to my question.

But thanks for your responses.

All of the official Nissan maintenance schedules can be found here:

For engine oil, these are not known to be problematic applications. So, following the OEM interval should be fine.

Like I said, Engine Oil will be the least of your issues.

Hi Jeff,

I just utilized the www.amsoil.com look up to make sure that 0w20 is ok for those applications. And it appears that would be a good choice for both cars. You can also use a 5w30 in the Altima. Going 6k or a year in those should be fine. Good job.

You can also go on www.carcomplaints.com to plug in make/model to check for any known issues with those models. I'm not aware of any off the top of my head.

Too cheap to do a $20 UOA? But in your post you said the following:

"I figure 6K OCI's with 0w20 Synthetic HM and Synthetic oil respectively."
"I wanna get this right cuz I don't wanna hafta buy any more cars..."

So you're willing to pay more for synthetic or synthetic HM oil, and you don't want to buy any more cars, but you don't want to buy a UOA that could potentially reveal that you could run your oil out to 12K miles, effectively halving your cost of maintenance?

Penny wise and pound foolish.

Thanks to all for your responses.
I kinda figured Nissan would suggest 10K OCI, like newer Toyotas.
I guess I just can't hang with that; maybe I'm too old school.
Or maybe I like the feel of a Snap-On wrench in my hand...

6K should do the trick.
I will watch this post for any other guidance.

By the way, I did 2 quick CVT spill-and-fills on the Altima.
Smoothed that that trans right out...

I've used a Maxima and a Sentra. Pretty much all Nissan engines can happily run on olive oil if you desperately needed too. Hahaha.

Your 6k plan sounds fine, if you're not comfortable running it longer.

I'm not surprised that the CVT smoothed out. I've yet to do a tranny oil change and not notice improvement in shift quality.

Yeah, Nissan has recommended 5K mile OCIs forever it seems. 6-7K would be fine for most owners I'd think.

You did good by doing some CVT spill and fills. I know the CVT fluid was very dark, almost used motor oil-ish at 32K miles when I bought our ex-rental 2016 Nissan Qest.
