Iron is way above average and your viscosity is pretty low too. I see you ran a Euro 5w30 which should be fine but you are shearing oil enough I'd jump to a VW approved 5w40.

What oil was this?

Yes, the iron levels are high. The VW TDI requires a 504.00/507.00 oil. I assume that the Amsoil 5W30 Euro meets that specification.

5W-30 (AEL): API SN; SM…; ACEA C3; BMW LL-04; Porsche C30; GM dexos 2* ; Chrysler MS-11106; MB 229.51
Manufacturer Approvals:* VW 504.00; 507.00

Why would you run a low ash oil to 45K miles? Not a wise move IMO, I'd love to see the TAN on this, I bet it's much higher than the TBN number
I overlooked that the OP ran this oil for 45,000 miles. No wonder the iron level is high. I guess it’s one of those change the filter and add oil deals. 🤦‍♂️

Besides you missing the fact 2x that it was a 45k oci I believe you also missed the fact there was no makeup oil added!

Wait, 45k o oil?
That is remarkable UOA!
However, as stated, there is no full picture. Two key things missing: Oxidation and flash point.

At 135 ppm, that's a nice chunk of iron. Though it may be more or less normal for that engine.

Rotella T6 5W-40 should do just fine in your motor 😁 At least it's worth a try 👍

I had a '15 TDI Passat with a stick for two years before the buyback. Great car! They gave me $29k for a car I paid $21K for. It would return an honest 48-55 mpg at 80mph freeway speeds in the summer. I liked the stick but the DMF made some strange noises from time to time. I changed the OE Castrol to Red Line 5w-30 after 2000 miles and ran it at 10k mile intrvals as dictated by VW. Fuel filter has a 40k interval iirc. Miss that car!

I wish I could buy a $20K or sub $20K brand new vehicle with a stick, preferably a Diesel, but even gasoline would be fine. No such luck anymore... And no, I really don't want a Civic, which is well over $20K for a stick anyway.

It boggles the mind how these newer Diesel vehicles have less reliable engines and burn more fuel, yet somehow, they polute less? 😮

Nothing against amsoil, but seems like a good candidate for Ravenol VME; 'up to 2 years / 50,000km' according to their site. OP would be there and then some.
