Hi folks,

We ended up selling our 2011 impreza. I bought gear oil with the intention of doing it.

It called for 75w90 in the front and 80w90 rear. The 80w90 i bought was conventional and the 75w90 is a blend

The 2015 outback we now have, calls for 75w90 synthetic front AND rear.

Any reason I cant use the 80w90 up front instead of wasting it?

I would say no 😊

I'd put the 75w-90 syn blend in the front diff (as that's the one doing most of the work 90% of the time) and the 80w-90 in the rear. You'll need the change the 80w-90 sooner than a full syn gear oil, but next time you change it just switch both to the correct fluid.

I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to the parts store to buy another fluid if I had those both on hand.

Keep in mind you're changing fluids that 90% of people that own those cars never even know exists.

In my older Subaru, I use synthetic 75w90 front and rear, since Walmart has their house brand so cheap :)

If you really want to use the 80w90, use it in the rear
