Amsoil Severe Gear vs Amsoil Gear Lube

What`s the major differences between Amsoil Severe Gear 75W90 and Amsoil Gear Lube 80W90? My car`s rear diff specs an 80W90 per owner`s manual and FSM. Does Severe Gear have the same limited slip additive as the Gear Lube? Reason I ask,is that when the time comes and I do a rear diff change,should I stick with the tried and true Gear Lube 80W90? I drained the OEM fill (Pennzoil 80W90)and tried a synthetic 75W90 one time and got bad rear wheel hop........replaced it with the Amsoil 80W90 Gear Lube and it immediately went away. Some Z32 owners report diff whine if you use a 75W instead of an 80W.

What`s the experts` thoughts?

If it were mine I would fill it with the Severe Gear 75w-90 and be done with it. The Severe Gear is Amsoil's top IMO and does work with LS rears.

The major differences are base oils and additives. SG uses a bit more stable base oil and more modern EP and AW additives. Yes Severe Gear does contain FM's.

One warning, if you are switching to Severe Gear, go with 75W-110, not 75W-90. It better matches the old school 80W-90 viscosity.

I tried some syn 75w90 in my wifes Lexus where it specs 80w90 and it started whining at freeway speed. Drained it and replaced it with Durablend 80w90...no whine...so I just ordered the Amsoil 80w90 for my 4Runner rear diff. I'm not saying you guys are wrong but the 80w90 did correct the diff noise immediately. Don't ask me why but the 75w90 I used was Mobil 1.

Kind of strange why Toyota specs 80w90 in the rear diff and 75w90 in the front & tcase???

Yeah but the 80w90 is like 3 bucks cheaper...which calls to me...

BTW, since I don't tow I'll be running this to 100k now that the diffs are broken in.
