Yeah, I wouldn't rely on specs much.

In a similar vein to their mileage ratings, Hyundai seems to have smaller horses than other mfgrs. Their much ballyhooed R spec 5.0 Genesis was a HUGE disappointment when it only trapped at 103 mph in a Car and Driver test.

The above was a common question when the 6.1 engine came out in SRT8 vehicles. They are rated at 425 horsepower but actually can do much better in good air.
I think some mfgrs just like to be a bit conservative, and I really like understated factory performance claims rather than overstated hype.

I've also read both of those things and have seen some supporting dyno plots.

What VWs were made in Deutscheland, and which were made in Mejico?
IIRC, all VW wagons - Jetta, Passat WAGON - and a few others were German (Vin WVW) and a lot else were Mexico (3VW.)
