Does it come with two working headlights. I think that's an option on most VWs. lol.

it looks the same as every GTI over the last 10 years. ive never been a GTI fan.

It sounds like it will be a great GTI. I still love my 2003 20th Anniversary Edition GTI, which has 178k miles on it now. Maybe in a few years I'll get a new GTI.

178k miles on your GTI.... that's an inspiration, I'd like to see mine cross 200k. At the rate it's going I have no doubt it'll make it.

There are more elegant ways around it. In the 2010 and 2011 cars you can use vagcom to disable the steering angle sensor, which kills ESP. Unfortunately that also disables the surprisingly effective electronic limited slip differential (XDS). In the 2012 cars I believe there's actually a setting that allows you to disable just the ESP.
The point is that I shouldn't have to hack my car to fully enjoy the car's performance. I'd still buy the car if there was a hack available to disable it, but I'd be annoyed.

It is too bad they won't come out sooner. Between the next gen GTI and WRX, I'd they are taking their sweet time rolling them out. It would be enough of a leap for me to buy a VW anyway, let alone a launch model VW. If things go to plan, I might be in the market in late 2014. Civic would be at ~240k at the current pace.

Not even close, because the things you mentioned are NOT the same. Have you seen the picture of the Civic-made-BMW? Same as a BMW, right? Sure, after having changed every single thing about the Civic that made it a Civic...

One of the Canadians on the 'Tex just got a 2013 GLI that appears to have the new engine, not sure if it is the same as will be in the NA GTI 7 or not but it certainly looks very similar.
If you see a picture of a MK6 next to a MK7 it is amazing how dated the MK6 looks. You'll recognize them both as VW's but that is where the similarity ends to my eye.
