I would use what the mfg specifies during the warranty period.
Sorry I read the OP wrong.
My buddy at work does 200 miles (mostly highway) a day in one. If he gets the dealership oil change (5w30 bulk), he drives home, drains out the 5w30 and gives that to his nephew. With the amount of miles he does, he says the 0w-20 makes an MPG difference.

I'm a bit surprised they jump from 0w20 to 5w30 and not 0w20 to 5w20.
I know on my Subaru, the manual says to use only 0w20, but something like 5w30 can be used for top-up, but "should be changed back to 0w20 at the next engine oil change".

My wife has a 2014 Rogue. I have done 4 oil changes on it now and used Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 each time. Manual says you can use 5W30, dealer offers a $5.00 oil change, they probably use bulk 5W30 for that, sorry no thanks on that one. The car was built with synthetic 0W20 so that is what I use in it. Her car runs fine, very quiet and smooth and gets between 28 to 32 MPG in mixed city and highway driving.
They all get 5w30 down here
What does the owners manual recommend "DOWN THERE"?
A coworker has a 2013 Sentra that has the same recommendation. 0w-20 or 5w30. The dealer has used 5w30 since new.
As for fuel mileage and "running smoother", I am not sure it makes too big of a difference. I put 10w30 in my Duratec 20 and noticed no increase in "smoothness" and no decrease in fuel econ.

In Australia probably 20w-50 or 10w-40. They do like their thick oils

I would go with a 5w30. Seems interesting to me this motor used to be specified for 5w30 for years prior. The 3.5VQ in my car was allowed for even a 10w40 just a bit prior to my years car. My generation car it was changed to the 5w30 only.

Use at least 5W30 that they are suggesting. 5W40 even. They cannot say it - 20 is there just to lower the gas mileage, but is horrible for the engine.
I did try to buy a second-hand 2014 Rogue, but at 17000 miles, the engine was NOISY already! Not something that the average person will recognize, but I could hear it.

Don't know what the manual recommends, but Castrol, Shell and Valvoline all say 5w30.

I think you meant to say raise the gas mileage in these vehicles. I am not against 5w20 or 0w20 viscosities. . but I just hope they really hold up in the long run. I would definitely would want to run a "heavy" 20 viscosity oil if my car was specd to have one.
Good news is there has been a great improvement in our oils that we buy.
I just find it a bit odd vehicles originally specified for either 5w30 or 10w30 now are running 5w20 or 0w20s. And this was the case just two, three, and or four years ago. Not like it was 20 yrs ago.

I remember emailing Nissan and asking if using synthetic 5w30 can be used. The response I got back from them is the following:

With regard to your inquiry, as an alternative to the 0W-20 oil, SAE 5W30 conventional petroleum based oil may be used and meets all specifications and requirements necessary to maintain the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
However please be informed that failure due to improper maintenance, misuse and lack of performance of proper maintenance services as outlined in your Nissan Service & Maintenance Guide is not covered by the New Vehicle Limited.

I had a 2007-8 Rogue for close to 4 years, and used 5w30 and 5w-20, valvoline synpower and Pennzoil platinum.
I have done used oil analysis on these oils, so you can find them in the used oil analysis section to give you an idea, and decide from there.
Yes, the engine is noisy, very noisy when very cold, but there was nothing special to say about it in the used oil analysis.
I did one year OCIs and I am easy on my cars.
