If that qualities as "too much chrome" then I think you would have a stroke sitting in my '66 Polara... or maybe your eyes would just do this:

Granted, most of it's not technically chrome but stainless steel. And in the case of my long-departed 300L, it was machine-turned stainless steel, and even more of it than the Polara. Seemed like acres. I really miss the use of chrome and brightwork, so many cars seem painfully flat these days.

There was another interior shot of the Polara I hoped I had on P-bucket, but its not there. This will have to do:

Off topic - but I always thought the dash of the '65-'66 Dodge Polara/Monaco was very cool.

Nice review. I echo your points about the pillars being REALLY thick in this vehicle, but I think that's a visual cue that adds to the perception of safety. I like this vehicle. In fact, there are four vehicles from only two brands that appeal to me at the moment: the Dodge Durango and Grand Caravan, and the Honda Pilot and Odyssey. All four have different pros and cons in my book, but all four check many of our boxes for a primary family vehicle (three rows of seats being one of our requirements). While we don't plan to be in the market for a new family vehicle for a good while, I always believe in having your next move planned out, just in case the unforeseen becomes a reality.

I test drove a Hemi-powered Citadel with my folks when they were shopping for 3-row SUVs a year or two ago. It was a tight vehicle, but I'd really like to try a more "plebe" 3.6L RWD version, the flavor I'd most likely be interested in.

Get used to the thicker pillars and higher belt lines as the OEMs have to meet the roof crush standards.

I echo what the OP says pretty much on 15 GC overland with the Hemi.

These are very nice rigs, the GC has somewhat diffferent interior with more wood accents and less "chome" and leather dash.

The QL air suspension is excellent, nicest riding SUV I have been in. Visibility is decent and the fit and finish was pretty good in mine.

True to some degree, but some manufacturers must be better adept at this than others, as there's a wide variety of pillar and belt line configurations out there. There is, fortunately, still a wide variety of choice, here!

Don't get me wrong: I didn't find the pillars or belt line of the Durango objectionable, and the Grand Caravan is nice, too. Not all Dodges are that way to me, though...some of their models are non-starters for me due to the belt line height.

The belt line height is based more on side-impact protection than rollover protection, so it'll be relatively lower on the vehicle for an SUV than a car (the car has less vehicle above the high belt line).
