Back in 2012 my Father bought a brand new F30 320d Sport (184bhp N47 diesel which I think was sold as the 328d in the US). My Father and I did 168k in that car over 5 years (we were working together so used it to commute). It never went wrong, ever! All it needed was tyres, brakes, oil, filters and a few front anti roll bar bushes.
It was an awesome car. It would do 60mpg+ on a cruise, could do a genuine 140mph and felt far faster than the 7.3 0-60 time would suggest, the 8hp was also terrifically smooth but remained punchy, the seats with the inflatable bolsters were comfy and the driving position was usual BMW.
What makes it more impressive was that my Father didn't do any maintenance unless the service minder told him to. That meant 20k+ OCI's throughout the cars life and the engine never seemed to suffer for it.
Criticisms? It was a saloon so the boot wasn't great and the seats didn't fold. The sound system also wasn't great, the MK4 Ford Mondeo I had blew it out of the water in that regard.
But still, I often argue that an estate or 'wagon' 320d sport would be all the car you could ever need!
