I recently purchased a 2015 TLX with the 3.5L V6 that has variable cylinder management (VCM). I installed an S-VCM Controller to disable the VCM (it's a totally different car now and now drives exactly like a performance luxury car should), but one of the things that can be caused by the VCM is oil consumption. I have not had the car long enough to know for certain, but I have not noticed any issues with oil consumption so far. I did a little searching in the oil analysis section and didn't find anything for an Acura TLX or anything for the Honda/Acura 3.5L V6 to see what others are seeing with their oil and if any particular oil is doing well. I'll probably have a UOA done once I'm on a second round of known oil and I'll plan to follow the OLM for now. I'm pretty sure that it's running Acura brand oil from the dealership currently, but am planning to switch it to Mobil 1 Extended Performance.
When I've pulled the dipstick I'm reminded of the Mazdaspeed3 that I owned a few years back that was also direct injection and very hard on oil. The oil definitely had a fuel smell to it with the Mazdaspeed3 and I have noticed the same thing with the Acura.
Anyone have any experience with oil in the Acura/Honda 3.5L V6 engine or can point me to something that I missed in my searches?
