As usual, I like it, but am still too afraid to rely on a VW as a daily driver. Especially with how fast I would be out of warranty driving 22k miles a year. If only Honda made the GTI.

OF COURSE it will be released here, the Sportwagen is one of the best sellers.

As usual there is a bunch of debate already as to whether it will be called a Golf or Jetta, but the car will come.

I hope it comes as an ALLtrack TDI (That I doubt).

I hope your right!

The Jetta er Golf Wagen has been in sales decline for a while now in NA. I don't understand it, when I visited my local VW dealer and asked about the wagen I was told it they had none and didn't expect any in and then went on to ask me if I would like to check out a Tiguan instead! I left in disgust.

Looks great! Always loved the Jetta (Golf) Sportwagens. As much as the new engine line-up was due for VW, I would be hesitant on buying one during its first production year.

I think all these new VW cars will look better in person too, they just have that look to them.

When you think like that, you are not a person who should be buying a used BMW/Audi either! Seriously, everybody makes different cost benefit analysis and even though I wish would be driving that 535ix instead of Acura, in the end, I did not have the stomach. If you want reliability and no drama of Honda/Toyota, you are not going to get it from BMW. Conversely if you want the driving experience of BMW, you are not going to get from Honda/Toyota.

We test drove a current Jetta and Passat TDI SEDAN, and it was NOT a very confidence inspiring car...interior quality felt sub-paar and the ride/handling was vague at best.

They have cheapened those cars a LOT, at least for the US -

however, they have retained the interior quality of the Sportwagen like they used to be, so that should be a good thing.

Does this mean Mazda6 wins?

Nope - she has now decided that the price for a Mazda 6 Touring+Tech or GT trim is too high and that most of the 'stuff' it comes with she can do without until she's about 45 ...

So now the decision is to start all over and look again for a COMPACT (not mid size) car than can be economical but still unique...

I have so far convinced her to test drive a Subaru Impreza (2012/2013) 5-door (hatch-ish thing) ... gets 27/36 with CVT, not very common, etc.
However, I have demanded that because she deserves SOME niceties after a 200k 2003 Elantra without even cruise control, she must shoot for the top trim and add the moonroof/nav package which is $2000, which will bring it to $25k or so...(MSRP) and Subaru has lower interest % than Mazda for the Impreza..(but 0% only for Legacy and Frester)
So this will still be about $3k less than the mid-trim Mazda with tech package. and very probably a much smaller monthly payment...

I wanted to her to like the Mazda 3 hatch, but even though she LOVES the mpg etc, she can NOT stand the smiley face. (even the current less smiley one)...

-sigh-

As a former Jetta TDI owner, I will second that. The last one left such a bad taste in my mouth I will never let another VW product stain my driveway.

See the problem is you only here about bad things on the internet hence why the masses cry unreliable with VW.

You will never hear them say they love it.

Owned 2 VW's in my life and to this day both never needed anything more than maintenance or some sub $100 part to be replaced.

I mostly like it, except for the massive D pillar. Why is that necessary? Must be a rollover/roof crush standard thing. It seems like a big blind spot though, and I think it detracts from the appearance.

Still, it's better than a crossover.
