The shape of the hood is nearly identical to that of the Taurus. Even the head lights are very close in design. The mirrors, windows, and chrome trim around the windows are very similar too.
I'm not sure why that is such a controversial thing to say. The Impala is going for the exact same target market. Why wouldn't it look a little like its direct competitor?
I don't see anyone really bashing it either. Actually, the comments about the new Impala are almost universally good in this thread.

Does not look to bad to me. Might be something I look into down the road when it's time to replace my Panther.
It's a good-looking car. But GM's design language for their sedans seems a bit over-stretched on this new Impala. Kinda like they took a Malibu and puffed it up a bit.

I had a 2008 with the 3.5L...pathetic rear seat room (but a huge trunk for those that carry more stuff than people), blown head gaskets at 65K (a known problem in the "improved" V6's they introduced in the 2006 Impala)and other issues with the car swore me off GM for the forseeable future. Maybe these new models will be better but each GM purchase I've made has been a disappointment as far as reliability...I'm not giving in to the hype anymore.
