Me too. I'm busy with other things in life; my vehicles are more like toasters, just doing their bit.

I sat in one. I liked it. I like that it still uses a twist beam rear suspension and has the option for a 4 speed AT. Don't care for CVT. But mine would be a manual trans any way.

I don't know what I'd get, stick over auto. I usually don't care for auto, but I can't say I've been loving my 6spd in the Camry. My TDi drives how I expect a stickshift ought; I suspect others might feel different, but driving other stick vehicles just haven't been the same since getting this. YMMV.

I'd take the 4AT over the CVT. It's proven.

Yeah, but would you take the 5spd stick over the 4spd auto? Usually stick is more entertaining, or at least fun; but I'm not sure in this case.

Yet Toyota will still sell 20k+ units a month with few incentives, go figure. For the folks who view cars as a necessary evil, having the best appliance will get their dollars all day long.

Yes, the Corolla is boring but I believe (and millions of others) that the reliabilty of a Corolla will be better than a Cruze or Focus long term. The 1.8 and 4 speed auto will last forever with average maintenance at best.

I see a lot more Cavaliers and Foci around me than Corollas of the same vintage.

My own Cruze has 68k miles on it, and has proven to be quick, fuel-efficient (can't remember the last tank lower than 40 mpg), and fun (to me at least) to drive. The only problems I have had with it have been minor, and easily/cheaply fixed. I can't say the same about the Corollas that friends and family have owned. One had very expensive emissions problems, another had a sunroof that never stopped leaking despite multiple trips to the dealer. Neither person was thrilled with Toyota reliability.

I could also bring up the sludged Camry my brother was given by my grandparents that was dealer-maintained by the book, yet still sludged at 60k miles.

Given my experiences with Toyota vehicles and my more positive experiences with "less reliable" GM vehicles, my personal bias is toward GM. Make things clearer?

Well given my poor experiences with GM vehicles (too many stories over too many years) I'll probably stick with the bland, but reliable Toyota's. I'm sure GM has made strides in quality and reliabilty, but myself as well as others got burned in the past and that's not an easy thing to forget. I'm glad you are happy with your Cruze and I hope it proves to be reliable long term, there are a lot of them out there.
