Anybody ever driven one? Is it reasonably peppy with a manual? There’s a cosmetically challenged one with 97k miles for sale cheap but I hate to venture out into the cold if it’s a real dog. They have a pretty good reliability rating on @macarose Dashboard Light quality index.

They are fun with a manual but you have to go through the ownership history as thoroughly as a Hasidic Jew studies the Talmud.

My son had one for about 100k miles, but his was an automatic.... super reliable, great mpg's, easy to work on when the rare repair was needed. Acceleration with the automatic was a bit lethargic. A healthy pickup towing a ski boat would probably still out accelerate it. It was fun to drive though. The 5-speeds were much peppier but this is going to be one of those instances where you're going to have to drive it to see if its ok for you, the 1.5 barely squeaks out 100 hp.

Are we talking about the green one in Blanchester?

The Mazda2 with the 5MT would be my first choice in a small car. I still miss our '01 Protege - perhaps my favourite driving car of all time.
