First world problems bro.

Says the man with 2019 and 2020 model cars.

I double click the massive button to control Nav screen on my 2007 Acura MDX to turn on/accept without much thought.

It maybe awkward but eventually you don't think much of it.

No that its certainly unsafe!

Lucky I guess in two clicks turn a knob in my 2018 Tiguan to off-road mode which disables traction control and turns on hill descent? Mode.

My 13 yo system is so slow that it's not ready to accept me hitting the "accept" button while the screen is still up. It's so slow to load that it won't accept a radio station change or changing the volume with the knob (but the steering wheel is fine for some reason).

All of this to say that I just ignore the whole thing for the first 30 seconds because it takes so long to boot. But at this age and mileage, I'm just glad it loads and works every day!

Funny side note my wife told me she hears a soft ding every now and then while driving.
Well I could have had a little fun with that but declined.
We finally figured out that every time the outside temp changed it would signal with a soft ding.
Now who really cares if the temp changes while driving?

It's not the temperature changing persay, it's the temperature falling into a preset "freezing weather" temperature range. If it detects the ambient temperature at 39F or below, it will warn you of the potential freezing (or frozen) hazard with that chime.

thanks I did not know that.
so it's a safety nanny.

My 2018 Santa Fe has it, but turns off atomatically after a few seconds (no idea how long, I usually start the car, put my seatbelt on, put it in reverse (rear view camera comes on) and by the time I put it in drive, the alert is gone.
If need to use the map, then I hit accept and then do the navigation.

My mom's 2018 Kia Soul is similar. She does not have to push the button on the nag screen, it turns itself off.

Our Mazda does the same thing. I don't pay attention to it.

Both our 6.5" and 8.4" Uconnect radios do the same thing, though they will go away by themselves. I'm more annoyed with how sometimes my phone will connect almost instantly, and other times it takes forever.

The easy answer is to buy a car that has buttons and switches but NO screen.

push the button and it works, flip the switch and it works, but if you have an iPad built into your dash then first of all its a huge distraction, and second of all you cant just turn something on without navigating through a menu to find an list of sub-options and then after you give the command it double checks what you want and tyou have to 'confirm' or 'accept' the instruction that you have already given. completely stupid design.

How much easier would you life be with a dashboard like this

and how much classier would the interior feel if it wasnt all lit-up like a kids computer game, like this?

people say K.I.S.S., I think they're right.

YOu're right that they shouldnt, but the unortunate truth is that they do. As if phones werent bad enough, drivers now have a brightly lit tablet to distract them ASWELL as their phone.

So it's better that drivers put on reading glass and try reading a map draped over the steering wheel at 70 mph like old days?

I think he is referring to most vehicle screens being placed badly, low and right, susceptible to sun glare.

I still think a GPS/ phone gps is a better application

I primarily use voice commands in the M235i when I'm driving. The iDrive controller can also be used without taking your eyes off the road. Navigation directions are also mirrored in the instrument cluster.

I think ati was not around in the map days. What a ridiculous statement.

Good gps has voice instructions. In my Mazda I get both audio instructions and visual in the HUD.
