The dealer said they use Mobillube PTX 75W-90. Someone else said they use Delvac 75W-90. What are the differences and what is preferred here? I obviously do not want to destroy the gearbox.

You'll notice no mention of GL-5 or J2360. I tried to find this oil on Mobil.us and came up empty.

Hey jtwrace like your sig. I've got a couple books from Geddes and learned quite a bit from the man. Cheers!

I also found that unusual. Amsoil says "no product recommendation" and that you should use the Porsche fluid. Red Line, however, says you can use this in the MT:

That makes perfect sense as you need the GL-5 type of performance for the hypoid but you also need to allow the synchros to function well. MT-90 is similar but without the hypoid compatibility.

Red Line 75W90 NS
- Designed for transmissions and transaxles
- helps to slow synchros for easier shifting across a broad temperature range
- Popular in Ferrari, Porsche and Subaru transaxles

I'm surprised that Amsoil does not have a similar product. My recommendation would be for:

Motul Gear 300.

The 997 is a rear-engine, RWD application with AWD on some models I believe (haven't looked it up). Without digging deeper I would assume the hypoid shares fluid with the rest of the transmission.

RWD. Really a transaxle.

Sorry...just saw this! Very nice to hear that you have read some of his papers. The man is brilliant. I own his products as well.
