The girl got a new 2012 ford focus. It has the 2.0L GDI engine with 5sp manual. Trying to figure out a solid OCI for this car. Here is my plan. Has 3 free OCI at ford dealer. They use Motorcraft. First OCI at 2500mi, then 5500mi, then 10000mi on the car. After those freebies I'm thinking around a 4-5K OCI on mobil super 5-20 (I really seem to like the new titanium add pack in oils). I will do UOA to determine the fuel dilution if there is any. I see no point of using a Full Synthetic on a 5K OCI? I have confidence a conventional oil will due just fine here in Iowa and keep the engine spotless.

Driving style: 25 miles a day, 20 on highway at 55-60mph, 5 in city driving.

Sounds like a good idea. Have you thought about maybe using Kendall Liquid Titanium. I use the synthetic blend on my Mazda 3 for 5K OCI. The car loves the oil.

Agreed; synthetics will not help with fuel dilution (if it happens). The oil has to be changed. I stopped using synthetics in my Hyundai cars because of this--the oil had to be changed at about 5K and thus a waste of $$$ to use a synthetic for short run like this.

Thats what I run in my truck (see sig) but they dont have 5w-20... its 3.80/qt shipped from petroluem service company, so might do that yet but mobil super is a lot more convenient.

sorry. Didn't notice your sig. Sorry to go off topic but how do you like the ecoboost engine. Just finished watching the youtube videos on the teardown of the ecoboost and was really impressed by the engine.

He didn't say he had the ecoboost engine. He said GDI 2.0L.

I believe it was in reference to the person who uses kendall, not the OP

I have the ecoboost in my truck that uses kendall oil.

All fords do have a 10k oci. Id have no problem doing that if the engine weren't DI.

You have an Ecoboost. How often do you change the oil on it?

The car came with a 5 year 60k mile powertrain warranty correct
With recommended 10k mile OCI on Motorcraft semi-synthetic too?

So why not just go 5k mile OCI with Motorcraft 5 qt jugs from Walmart and MOtorcraft filter..If you're concerned about fuel dilution conduct a used oil analysis!

I've already had this discussion in another thread and have done all this and my used oil analysis is posted.....
