I don't get it?! Is there an oil thinner than 0Wxx? Please keep the board informed when viscosities get thinner than zero.

Guys, it is a 4 day old car! Extending OCI beyond the 3K will not be an option for another 10 years/120K miles (the length of Kia's powertrain warranty).

That's why my OCI is 6mo/7500 (in actuality it ends up being around 4K miles); my Kia still has factory warranty! I know that PP, Synpower and P1 filter can go longer, but I will not take a chance on my warranty.

If it were me, I'd use a 30 weight with the lowest volatility I could find. Something like Amsoil XL 10W-30. It has a Noack of 5.7%.

Is that a joke and you forgot to put one of these?

No,I was serious believe it or not. I`d run 10W30 Synthetic If it were me.

Doesn't the 0 in 0-40 mean quick flow on start?

Actually,my point was....let me explain; I ran GC in my RX for a brief time. When the motor was cold, and especially when it got cold outside, I could barely pull the steep hills here after work. Now we all know that is a 0W too. But sometimes oil may be too robust for the motor design. That was what I meant when mentioning the 0W40 in his car.

Whoa...hold a min. I may not be super informed when it comes to oil, but I just had a hard time following your train of thought.

You pinpoint that GC oil may be the reason why you feel sluggish on uphill climb. GC has a 0w for cold start, which should be superior for cold flow. But then you suggest using 10w-30 for a turbo because 0w-40 might be too thick. So how does 10w provide better cold start? From my understanding, that is thicker than 0w when cold...

Judging from the #`s cst etc. I know it sounds retarded and all,but this is what I have noticed with the GC. I have PYB in it now,so far it`s fine. Pulls the hill`s, passing power, etc all fine. But when it gets cold will be the real test.

24,000 km is almost 15K miles. That's five times longer than Kia's recommendation.

I forgot I have your same car.

It's a nice ride for sure. I'm partial to the grill. It looks like bull nostrils so it seems more intimidating, but it's so big..

nice looking car-that is my favorite color for this car. Anyone know if there is an online manual-I 'd really like to see that 3K OCI and syn mandate in black and white.
Using one of the auto chain store oil specials figure 30 bucks per syn o/c X 40 changes = 1200 bucks for oil and filters till warranty is up. Dino @ 3K OCI approximately 15 bucks/OC =600 bucks.
To me 3K OCI even in a turbo is a bit too conservative today-you'll see whn you change it, it will be almost the same color coming out as it was going in

Not sure about 3K OCI being conservative for Kia turbo - it depends . Recently did a 4K OCI on new Elantra with PYB and when I drained it was dirty dark brown (80% suburbs 20% highway) and that's with non - turbo engine .

We recently noted an ugly new design from BMW and I said they should hire Kia to do their styling. Kind of a joke but seriously Kia does build some really nice looking cars. The Optima and the Soul are my favorites. I would like to see the Soul with a sport package and the turbo motor.

The 3k OCI is being stated in the on-board in dash information center. It states "2900 miles until next oil change". It's a much fancier oil life monitoring system than the one on our Chevy. I have read that KIA and Hyundai are very strict with their warranties, so I'm gonna go with exactly what the OLM says.

I would do so as well then.
I'm used to the bread and butter OLM in Chevys.
Good luck with the new ride-put some Zaino wax on it -it will really pop
