Hello, which synthetic do you guys recommend for my 2011 F150 3.5 ecoboost? After reading up, I'm leaning toward Pennzoil, but which is of the two available (PUP or PP) is best? Both are similar in price. Or would Castrol Edge or another oil be a better option? I've read that Mobil 1 has had more issues with dilution recently? I live down in Texas if that makes any difference.

I've been running Pennzoil Platinum/ Fram Ultra in mine. Changed every 6 months or when the IOLM goes off, whichever comes first. Don't drive it but on weekends and to tow the camper so I feel better with 2x a year or mileage.

I recommend Pennzoil Platinum or Valvoline SynPower for your EcoBoost. I'd change every 5,000 with a Motorcraft filter. Reason being for the shorter oil change is I believe these EcoBoosts are pretty tough on oil, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Following a previous poster's lead (CT8). Here's another very nice run on Castrol GTX Magnatec 5W30...

Motor craft semi synthetic is perfectly fine and is recommended and tested by ford.
If you must go with a full syn, just pick whats on sale at the time or use supertech or some other house name

FWIW I'm running Castrol 0w-40 in my '11 EB FX4. I'm at 91k and doing 4K OCIs with FL 500s filters because of what I read here:

There's a good article on TGDI engines

Fuel dilution and the ill effects of soot are why I bumped things up a bit. But I must say the above UOA has me thinking.....

See today's post about Chevron's view on low speed pre ignition in direct injected turbocharged engines. It concludes low-calcium detergent packages help to prevent this phenomenon.

Mobil1 synthetics are reliably low in calcium compared to others, and use magnesium as a substitute. With so many other things being equal with major brand synthetics, why not just use Mobil1? Excellent quality, readily available, competitively priced and lower calcium.

Thanks for all the info..I really appreciate it!

I'm really liking those Castrol Magnatec results. I see both used oil analysis are from the same truck, has anyone else posted any other Uoa?

Very true. I forgot the EB 3.5L Turbo is also a T-GDi. As with my 2.0L T-GDi, i'd recommend Mobil 1.
