New here but I have been reading threads for about one year. I have a 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 with the 6.4L 6-speed manual. I have not done the first service yet but will be doing so in the spring. Car is stored for winter. The problem I have is I cannot find a good 5w40 oil in my area. I buy all my oil in Port Huron Michigan. Are there any good web sites to order oil from? Can I order oil from the chain stores, Autozone etc? I am looking for PU5w40, if possible. I can get 0w40 at Walmart but the owners manual specifically states 5w40.
Thanks in advance, Mike.

I'm sure you can get Rotella T6 at the Walmart. Its a good 5w-40.

Interesting that it recommended 5w-40.

Engine Oil Selection
For best performance and maximum protection under all
types of operating conditions, the manufacturer only
recommends full synthetic engine oils that meet the
requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-10725
and are approved to MB 229.3 or MB 229.5 (will be listed
on the back label of the oil container).
The manufacturer recommends the use of a full synthetic
5W-40 or equivalent engine oil.

Engine Oil Viscosity (SAE Grade)
SAE 5W-40 engine oil is preferred for use in all operating
temperatures.
The engine oil filler cap also shows the recommended
engine oil viscosity for your engine. For information on
engine oil filler cap location, refer to “Engine Compartment”
in “Maintaining Your Vehicle” for further
information.

Synthetic Engine Oils
You may use synthetic engine oils provided the recommended
oil quality requirements are met, and the recommended
maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes
are followed.

First welcome to BITOG, we need all the Canadians we can get!

Mobil 1 0W-40 is readily available and can definitely be used where a 5W-40 is specified in your application.
Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40 is a light 40wt oil with it's HTHSV of 3.68cP. Mobil 1 0W-40 has a higher HTHSV of 3.8cP consiquently it is heavier in that regard but it has a higher Viscosity Index of 185 vs 179 for Pennzoil Ultra so your cold start performance will be about the same.

You can order oil online at Amazon.comThey have a good selection and sometimes have free shipping. Good luck with your find

If you can find Mobil 1 0W40 locally use it. It is probably one of the best oils Mobil makes.

If you're going to order from a retailer in Port Huron (Autozone, O'Reilly, etc), you can get either the Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5w-40 or Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40. Both meet the minimum requirements (Chrysler MS-10725 and one of MB229.3 or 229.5).

Mobil 1 0w-40 would be more than good enough, but if you get and run the Pennzoil products, then you're "warranty safe".

Fiat now owns Chrysler, and Fiat has a strategic relationship with Shell (or at least their Ferrari division does) so expect a drift to more Shell brands showing up in Dodge/Chrysler dealerships near you.

Chrysler is supplying Pennzoil, both synthetic and conventional, for our corporate gas engines, and Rotella for the Cummins diesels.
We use Quaker State Synthetic 0w30 for the 2.8 and 3.0 diesels.

Thanks for all the recomendations. It looks like I might go with the Mobil 1 0w40 with a Mobil 1 filter. But before I buy the Mobil 1 0w40 I will check out Amazon.com and Autozone about the Pennzoil Ultra 5w40.

Try NAPA. They can order all kind`s of specialty motor oils. I ordered two cases of PP 5W50 from them. No shipping costs.

He's in Canada. Unless there is a NAPA store in Canada he'll pay shipping, local taxes and duty if it comes from the USA.

Mike,

I think you can get away with using a 5w30 in your Mopar engine. To be using an oil that needs a 40W I can't understand in this world of getting the best mileage. All you need is an oil that will go up to 30W

^^Amen ;^)

IMHO Mobil 1 0W-40 is a perfect fit.

Were you in PH about a month ago with that car by HF/Gander Mountain/Verizon ? the wife & I talked to a guy from Canada with that car, we were checking it out...real nice car.

We do have NAPA up here, but the Canadian NAPA's selection on a lot of things isn't what you guys get. Personally, I'd get what's speced or what's closest to spec.

To the OP, what else does the manual say besides 5w-40? There are all kinds of 5w-40 oils with all kinds of different specifications. I've seen SM 5w-40, 5w-40 HDEO, and 5w-40 with all kinds of ACEA and European manufacturers' specifications. If they just specify SM 5w-40, with no mention of other specs, Delvac 1 ESP 5w-40 or Royal Purple 5w-40 would work.

However, with the mention of MB 229.3 and 229.5, Mobil 1 0w-40 is probably the path of least resistance.

MB 229.3 list is at http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/229.3_en.html

MB 229.5 list is at http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/229.5_en.html

Pennzoil Platinum European Formula 5w-40 meets both Benz specs and the Chrysler specs. Best bet to find it is NAPA or another parts store. I doubt you'll find it at Canadian Tire or Walmart. The Chrysler dealer should have appropriate oil, along with Benz dealers, but I shudder to think of the price.
