Easiest and cleanest oil change I've ever done on ANY car. Your points 1 and 3 are completely off base and unfounded imo.

The transmission has a plug for checking the level, similar to a rear end...no biggie, I checked my 2.2 the day I brought it home.

Buy what you want, no skin off my nose, but at least come up with some real criticisms instead of these straw men.

What kind of mileage (mpg) are you getting with your Ecotecs?

Those are some of the silliest reasons for not wanting a car I heard in a while.

As a die hard DIY'er myself I am very surprised that these minor things are listed as major hindrance in performing maintenance.

I don't know but I smell a "fishing" post here. What is the OP fishing for???

My HHR averages 31.8 mpg at about a 30 city/ 70 hwy mix.

My sisters 2.4 DI Nox is averaging right around 25 mpg with mostly shorter, around town use. I would estimate at 70 city/ 30 hwy use.

My fathers 2.4 DI Terrain is averaging a little better than hers is, last I checked it was right around 27. But he has a use profile more like mine, maybe 40 city/ 60 hwy use.

I have 16,000 miles on my 2010 2.4 'Nox. Fuel mileage is averaging about 24 mpg in very heavy stop/go traffic. I'm happy with the mileage considering the conditions.
I've done 2 oil changes. One of the easiest cars I've ever had to change the oil on. I don't even have to jack it up. The cartridge oil filter is a pleasure to replace. No mess like the spin on type.

Absolutely no problems. Haven't had it back to the dealer since the day I bought it.

Maybe a "Hey I'm going to buy a new $30k vehicle, but I have some silly issues with it!"

FWIW, I have an ecotec engine and am getting 25mpg in the city, 35 highway and it is so quiet you can barely hear it run!

Oil changes in this thing are a dream. No mess at all. LOVE the vertical oil filter on top of the engine. Genius, IMO.

I also wouldn't buy the loaded model only to get DVD. Factory option often costs $2000 or more. We had an 11.x" overhead put in our Aspen for $500 installed. It matches perfect, and looks factory (even the LED lights match). The kids love it. We used a portable one for years, and that was a pain.

And in the Ecotec, no coolant passes through the intake manifold, so the area where the V6s were vulnerable to leaks is a non-issue.

I just bought one of these (okay, it's the GMC version) but wow do I love it! I drove everything available and this was by far the nicest in it's class.

This is a very common and dangerous misconception.

Isuzu, from 91-2003 used GM 4L30 auto transmissions in their Isuzu trucks. The 95.5 - 2003 automatics are all *sealed units* with it written in the owners manual that the fluid is good for life or 120k.

This is a FAR cry from reality; these transmissions are not *100%* sealed, they can very much be serviced and should every 30k miles.

The term *sealed* simply means there's no dipstick, however, these transmissions can easily be filled from underneith once an individual gets the hang of it.

Mine is a so called sealed unit, yet I do drain/refills every 15k miles and I change the filter every 30k.

Do NOT fall for the theory that the units are sealed and never need servicing....there's not an automatic transmission built yet, that doesn't like - and need - fresh fluid every 30k or so.

I agree 100%with you and do not appreciate routine maintance becoming a dealership only item.

" You should read my my Equinox post. People went nuts insulting me for the reasons I chose not to buy one. I really enjoyed the attention and plan to knock a few more cars in the future."... Mr Radman in another thread.

Sounds like a troll to me.

It's not a dealership maintenance item; any home DIY can perform regular fluid changes on these transmissions. I've been doing mine since 6mnths after I bought the truck.
