There's nothing in this sample to indicate an issue. How was your FF oil at 1K miles?

Visible metal particles was higher than in any drain oil I've ever seen. Doubt the UOAs catch all that.

Here's the UOA from Finklejag at 3.4k

Wear is on it's way up and is linear.

Additive levels are higher, perhaps VW is tuning the FF for NA fuels?

I would have dumped the factory fill before 10k miles and UOA the second run of oil. Toyota says my vibe 5 speed auto toyota WS fluid does not need to be changed in normal driving. I changed it out anyway.

It is an approved oil from VW. I dont use Castrol because it has to much Saltwater in the oil. I am in the USAF and not buying Castrol cost me about 3x more money than if i went on base and bought Castrol.
I dont get the free oil changes from VW even though mine is US Spec.
Alot of people are going to be getting UOAs @5k I did mine to see if it is a waste of time, money and environmental resources to do so.
I drive my car HARD and within the next 6 months the power will be increased about 150hp.

So this is interesting. We were thinking that all US Spec 2.0T engines are tuned to run rich, which causes increased fuel dilution. However, in your report, fuel dilution is very low.

Maybe it has to do with the way you drive.

OK here is another report 7200 miles in between oil changes which I only did because I didn't know my work status when I got back from Germany. During this oil fill which is Mobil 1 ESP I have ran the Nurburgring for 5 laps

and drove the Autobahn over 115mph for about 1500 miles or so. I drive my car hard everyday.

You're assuming this is something that in fact needs to be prevented, but does it? Is there proof that these levels of iron and copper are doing harm? As BobFout mentioned, they are just a byproduct of engine break-in, but not cause for concern on a new engine.

IMO, if this situation was harmful to the long-term well being of the engine, the manufacturer would have mandated an early oil change.

Long gone are the days of "change the factory oil within the first 100-500 miles to remove excess metal particles floating in the oil from the break-in process"

Its quite obvious that regardless of what "reasonable" OCI you follow and how much abuse you put on an engine, the sucker will keep running for years to come.

The changes of probability are that you'll crash or sell the car before it reaches 100-200k so engine longevity isn't really that much of a concern to the manufacturers in today's time.

That's just my opinion on the matter.

Yeah its not when Im going to crash it more like how Im going to crash it.. I track it and plan on doing alot more next year and plan on hitting at least 1 track in each country of Europe if I can but drive safely on public roads just a lead foot to the speed limit. The road I drive to work has about 3 inches of clearance for 2 midsize cars that is a 60 mph limit. Head on are common here.

Change the first fill when the manufacturer says to. You see folks there are engineers that stay late at night on Friday to figure this out for us; I know I'm one of them (not for cars but smaller engines).

Hi,
AJ - It is very unlikely that any VW Group Engineers would have made lubricant recommendations - they would have come from their contracted lubricant supplier - Castrol - resident Lubricant Engineers!

Yes, the OCI for VW is supposed to be 10,000...HOWEVER, the first change is supposed to be at 5,000...When my wife and I purchased a 2009 Rabbit they all came with the free service that year and first change for that year model was 5,000...I did the first two intervals at 5,000.

My buddy has one of those fairly new City Golf's, he is suppose to go 10k as well, but he didn't make it that far because one day his oil pressure light blinked on him. He checked the oil only to find nothing on the dipstick.. LOL! (that was the first oil change)
