I finally broke down and sent my first sample in on our 2013 Lexus RX350. We've owned the vehicle since ~50,000 miles. It's had 5k oil changes cycling between Mobil 1 AFE, Pennzoil Platinum, and Mobil 1 Truck and SUV. The vehicle is 90% highway miles and 10% in town. It's now at ~175,000 miles and is up to date on all maintenances. The only repair on it so far was a CV boot tear. We do an OEM air filter every 10-15k miles, driving is pretty boring cruising at 65-70 mph, my wife on the other hand drives it like a mini cooper. The engine is the 2GR-FE and they're known for not burning oil and just running. This car burns zero oil over the 5k mile oil change, it's right where it was when I filled it. We have 12 Toyotas in the family, plenty of these 2GR-FEs so we're pretty familiar with them. If you watch the carcare nut on youtube he has a good breakdown on these motors.

I did do a filter change half way through after seeing others do so. I don't expect this motor to have a lot of carbon but potentially some normal varnish, speculating on carbon as I've not pulled a valve cover. The varnish on the top oil screen under the oil cap has been removed in just once oil change so that was promising. This is the first oil change with it and I'll probably run the next 3 oil changes on Restore and Protect. Results were pretty boring for 175k?, I'm happy with them.

UOA is an analysis of oil, not an engine. So wear metals, unless there is some dramatic spike, are irrelevant.
So, no TBN, no TAN. You really don't know where this is going.

That's a good point. I weighed in paying for a UOA at all since I'm not interested in oc's past 5k miles, I kinda looked at it as money wasted. Since I'm not interested in anything over 5k miles I opted against paying extra for TBN/TAN. I'm in the boat of just run it at 5k miles and leave her be.

2GR-FE is a "cold" engine (which has its issues), but that makes it very easy on oil.
I had it in Sienna, and UOA were always stellar.

I gotta ask: what is a "cold" engine??
It has a lower operating temperature. The cooling system and design never allow oil it to go over 220-225f. I pushed 2GR-FE at very high altitudes, and oversized cooling system keeps it there, which is good from one point, not so good from performance and especially in winter. Probably the worst engine I had in winter.

Oil Analyzers includes TBN and oxidation in their standard analysis and costs about the same. They also use a more accurate method for fuel dilution.

This is my 14 Venza 2GR-FE at 127k mi. 5k oil changes since new. Just switched to HPL 5w-30 Euro no VII at 120k.

Looks clean! I'll have to grab a picture of mine.

Good to know, thanks for the information!
