You can't expect perfect highway fuel economy along a trip to Yosemite, HWY 1, and across the grapevine pass between the Valencia and Button Willow. My 1.8L Integra with 4 passengers were pulling 4.5k rpm for a few minutes going 70 mph with pedal to the floor.

Common sense tell people with older cars to turn off the AC and turn on the heat to full blast when climbing up the hills.

critic, i hope your nissan doesn't let your parents down. I know my dad's nissan sentra didn't start being a headache until after the first year.

I had a massage this morning (Long story) and while I was on the table I was talking to the lady as I normally do and her mom just bought a 2010 Ultima with a 4 cylinder and CVT and she got a 200K KM (120K mile) warranty on the CVT. I think that is excellent that Nissan is standing behind them for so long.

Good on them...

Altima with 3.5 is a rocket. That engine is fast on a Maxima, it must be even faster on Altima as it weighs less than Maxima.

The new Maxima is still quicker. They did something to the VQ35DE so that the output has increased to 290HP and the improvements are evident with the higher trap speed in a 1/4 mile run. Nearly 100 mph on the 1/4 mile with the Maxima; I think the Altima is at around 97?

They haven't changed too much.
a 2002 Altima (first year for the 3.5) with 5MT trans could do 100mph trap speeds. I think they actually under-rated a lot of the first gen 3.5's. I've had both a 2002 Altima and a 2002 Maxima both manual trans and both VQ35DE, and I still feel that the Altima is a faster car. I don't know though about the newest generation.
