Just purchased a 2010 Mazda6 with the 3.7 V6 engine. Reading the owners manual, this is what I find concerning the proper oil to use:

"Recommended Oil: Use SAE 5W-20 engine oil. A chief contribution this type of oil makes to fuel economy is reducing the amount of fuel necessary to overcome engine friction. U.S.A. and Canada

(Mexico): Use SAE 5w-20 if available. If not available, use 10w30, 10w-40 or 5w-40 engine oil."

So, if I get my oil changed in Mexico, is it ok to use 10w30? and why not 5w30?

i am running t-6 5w 40 in my escape, i see no fuel mileage difference over the 20w that the owners manual specifies.

Agreed and to more a point go with the Motorcraft version. Appears more than sufficient for warranty supported OCIs.

If I cant get the oil grade I want I dont have to change the oil THAT week. Id rather wait than buy something thicker.

Thicker V. Thinner... who knows really, I have a 2009 Mazda6 3.7L and have run:

MC 5w-20
M1 5w-20
M1 0w-30
PP 5w-20
Waiting to go in
M1 0w-20

My engine is still running :)

Theres only a few UOA for the 3.7L on here so who knows whats working?? And they don't tell us much. I though about running the M1 5w-40 just to try it but why?

Too much pour point depressant, vi improver, not enough oil?

Scratch that, held off on the M1 0w-20 till the colder months and I wanted to try some Mobil Clean 5000 5w30. Autozone has MC5000 on sale for $1.99Qt or $9.99 for the 5+qt. This is my first non-syn OC scene the factory fill and free OC from Mazda.
