Mr_Joe: I'm sorry, I goofed.

I usually check all my facts before I post. Don't worry about Active Fuel Management. They stopped using it on the 3.9L in ~2009. The 2010 should have VVT instead. Sorry to lead you in the wrong direction. But I will watch this thread and post any results on my end if I should find anything.

Thanks all for the tips. Everything is on track to check some of the simpler things Christmas afternoon. By that time our Son will be playing with an IPhone 6 he wants bad but has no clue about. The older Son can maybe help me.

I may not get far with my limited time, but whatever turns out I will post an update of some type.

My update. Some of the things I did were along the lines of preventive maintenance, so not related to the problems she stated. I also had to keep within time and no stores open at the time.

I pre-ordered spark plugs, a 'mass air flow sensor', and two air filters. I first changed the two air filters, the 'cabin' filter is under the passenger side windshield base, U-Tube a big help changing it. It had never been changed.

The engine air filter box was open on bottom, not properly clipped shut. Both were moderately dirty. The MAF sensor was easy to change out with new.

Most of the work was the spark plugs, rear being the worst. The old plugs were tight, very dry on the threads, almost froze but not quite. I went slow and did much by 'feel' on the back. The gap in the old plugs worked much wider than the new ones. The tip looked rather deteriorated also. I used anti-seize, but they will likely be there for the duration.

Then we went to a friend with a good code reading program, check engine light on as expected. There was only one code. It came up as 'fuel evaporation leak'(as I recall). He said it was usually a loose gas cap, or poor seal with the cap closed(gasket). He reset the CEL. I thought there would be more codes, it didn't come back yet with 8 miles of driving.

I added some oil, it started O.K. For me. That's about it, she's on the way back to MI.
