I spotted this xB on CL and toying with looking at next week. Other than the notorious oil burning 2AZ-FE, anything else I should be wary about (other than, everything, being this old)? I'm leery of getting back into a manual trans after so many years away, but I kinda want a cheap wagon again (loved my Jetta) for the utility aspect. That I can drive like 25k/yr without worrying too much about. That I can put a trailer hitch onto and move my bike rack or my 4x8 utility trailer (a sore spot for me, neither of my current Toyota's "allow" this) (although an automatic might be better with the trailer, maybe, backing up my driveway is backing uphill). That I can take to any shop for a repair that I can't do. Good ingress/egress.

Same wheelbase as a Corolla, so no worse than what I already have to deal with?

My twin 🤗
My xB
Priced a little high, but it's got more paint on the hood than mine does 😭

If it hasn't been chronically run out of oil (or had the ZE7 LSC rebuild), the engine can be pretty solid
Plan on sending the injectors out for a good clean/flow test, and the windshield is of a chip prone angle
Go drive it, see how good it is 🙂
It is a most practical small utility vehicle, and I can attest to a 65" TV fitting quite nicely
The 6'3 driver, not so much

Luckily we're all short. But we're all get tired of adjusting the seat as one of us has to move it in order to drive.

Bummer on windshields. My VW needed one every 2 years. My other cars aren't so bad but probably should get new ones every 10 due to pitting. So plus/minus--but I'm guessing this is cheap compared to my newer 'yotas.

Wasn't sure on price but the market is what it is.

Another twin for @michaelluscher 🤗
Due to the whole Hyundai Genesis ECU dilemma my dad finally pulled a trigger on getting a spare vehicle. We spent the whole day between Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Durham looking at cars. FIAT, Multiple Honda Fit, Civic, and Toyota Prius vehicles, but all were just too far gone in the available price range: vehicle had to be under $3k.
Finally, once back in Charlotte in evening, found this one. 2008 Scion xB, $2300. Great condition overall, has been partially repainted some years back. 224k miles, no smoke or ticking. Owner was very diligent with maintenance, even fed it Stabil at every fuel up. And did ATF Drain & Fills. Current oil consumption is 1qt per 1500 miles. I'll do a piston soak whenever I can get to it and can have the pistons soak for a week. But until then it is going to be on a steady diet of Valvoline Restore & Protect 5W-30.

After driving it around I got pretty nostalgic about the 2009 Scion xB I had... Even told my dad that if something happens to the FIAT, then I'm only gonna replace it with a Scion xB. I really forgot how spacious these are, both front and rear. I'd love to find a 2013-2015 xB with a manual.

09 has the single backup light so plan on swapping in a brighter LED bulb. You’re also going to need a lighter socket gizmo to sync your phone because the otherwise good factory stereo didn’t have Bluetooth.

The 2AZFE in my 09 Camry burns a quart of 5w30 in approx 1200 miles. It's a thing. The electric throttle is also very touchy with its tip-in.

Go look at it. They rot, so look under VERY well.

You can do better than six grand with a private party. If you find the original owner, they hate bargaining (Scions were "un-haggle-able"), so surprise them with a low-ball and you'll probably get it. Same as Saturn owners, LOL.

I want that hood prop kit now 🤩

You can still find the iPod sync cable on eBay for around $15. The wiring also seems very appealing to mice, so plan on periodically squirting a little peppermint oil under the hood.

That looks pretty sharp. Way nicer than anything I want. My cars are already getting covered in sand from winter.

Weird. Corolla uses 5x100mm bolt pattern, but xB and Camry uses 5x114.3mm. ??? Toyota being weird. I'd think they'd just pick a size and stick with it... I guess some pennies were saved, somehow. I was sad to find that out, after I got my Corolla, just seemed odd. [But I "knew" going in that my 14" rims would not fit, lol. Still have 3 nearly new and good 14" tires sitting around, plus a third with a thorn in the sidewall.]

If it really only has 125k; worth a look, very low mileage for a Toyota drivetrain!
Don’t be surprised if it goes quick at asking…

I'll give you even more confusion. 2009+ Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe came both with 5x100 and 5x114.3 bolt patterns. It just depended on the powertrain. 1.8L got the 5x100 bolt pattern, while Corolla/Matrix XRS and Pontiac Vibe GT with the 2.4L got the 5x114.3 bolt pattern.

Actually on looking, it's overpriced:
-looking at CL for "Scion" it seems a bit on the high end
-looks like this was a trade-in for a local Nissan dealer, who appears to only have on their lot for a month before selling?
-not clear if this has been on this lot since August or not--the oldest CL ad is from early November, but I don't recall seeing it since August (but I would likely have filtered out, wasn't interested then).

That's funny. That 2.4 can rip apart the 5x100's? :ROFLMAO: Torque monster, that motor is. At least that makes some sense of it.

I did not know this and I'm glad you posted it. I have an old wheel from my 1.8L Matrix that I was going to mount an old tire to and use as a full-size spare for my xB. Thanks for saving me the trouble.
