2009 Mazda 5 Would Turn, but not Start

Decided to drive my trusty 2009 Mazda 5 this morning and the car would not start. It would turn, but would not start. I then decided to spray some ether into it since I was out of options. It sputtered, but cranked right up. I then proceeded to drive it around with no issues and it ran great. Car has 150,000 miles on it. There is only a fuel strainer directly on the pump. I have never changed it out based on it being directly on the pump. Battery is two and a half years old. Do you think the fuel pump could be going out on it? What would you do if this was your car? Thanks.

My experience with Mazdas is that if the vehicle has been sitting several days especially with the nose pointed in an upwards position, that the injectors can often experience leak down. Turning the key on/off (or push button ignition) on/off several times to get the the fuel pump to prime the injectors will cure this issue.

Might want to consider looking/cleaning the throttle butterfly.
Had my 2015 Mazda 5 flood without any reason once in a while. Other symptom was almost stalling when the AC pump was cycling while idling in drive.

My ford focus had a throttle body flap that was sticking. Most likely dirty in there. Very good suggestion. Thank you! Drove car 15+ miles today with 60+ minute break between. No issues thus far. Will keep it near to home in the case she acts up, but running well.

Hmmm, I was following because my teenage Daughter got handed down our old 09 M5 with the 2.3
It has been rock solid (original owner) except the roads around here beat up the suspension parts and the stupid ZR speed rated tires they put on the things don't last for crap.

Yea the suspension gets beat up on these. I think is because it shares suspension parts with the 3, which is a much smaller vehicle and the low profile tires definitely do not help. Agree with the tires. Those 17" are lowprofile. I've been thinking about putting the 16" rim/tire s ize that the later Mazda 5 vehicles come on with, but unsure if I want to sink any more money into this car with 150,000+. I absolutely love this vehicle as I just stuck a live Christmas tree in it for transport the other day. My A/C compressor went out in November (perfect time to go out), so plan to change that out by the spring time. Unsure if I should change the fuel pump as it is not giving me any issues, so probably will continue to roll it and put some type of fuel cleaner into it.

W.r.t. the wheels and tires, I did exactly that on our 2009 Mazda5 - replaced the 17" factory alloys and 50-series tires with 16" factory alloys and 55-series tires. Nice improvement in ride and longevity of front-end parts.
