2009 Hyundai Genesis

I would consider buying it it were a new Genesis line, not a Hyundai!

The name matters.

To say "I just bought the new Hyundai sedan" feels much different than saying "I just bought the new Genesis sedan".

Great point. I recently bought an 08' Corolla, although it was a tie between it and the Hyundai Elantra, which is a great little car. In the end, I just couldn't cope with saying that I own a Hyundai. Not that my Corolla is a Mercedes by any means, but I wanted the Toyota name over the Hyundai. The fact that half the people I know call it a "Hi-yun-die" doesn't help either.

"It looks like a knock off of several things put together?"

Yep! Just like the 2008 Honda Accord.

Well, the laws of physicis, namely aerodynamics, have dictated all moderm cars to have more or less the same shape.

this is what the front reminds me of.

But let's face it, there are a ton of similarities in the entire auto industry, so I wouldn't necessarily just put the blame on Hyundai.

It looks more like the 'Benz than the Lexus. 'Cept it has more noticeable quality than the tri-star'd car!

I had a 1992 Sonata that I purchased new and maintained well. The KM-175 (Mitsu designed) A/T crapped out at 109K and cost more to replace than the car was worth. My friend had a 1998 Sonata with the same tranny that also died at 109K. He had it rebuilt and the car is nearing 150K but he has little faith in the durability of the rebuild.
When the Sonata died I purchased a brand new 01' Accord and it turns out to be one of the trouble-prone A/T 6th generation BAXA units.

Nice car to find a couple years used at a <$15k loaded. I feel sorry for the saps who buy this thing new, Hyundai retains resale value very poorly. Incredible buys slightly used though.

Hey, anyone seen the coupe version? It looks awesome!

Problem is, its top engine will be a 306HP 3.8 V-6...if they put the new 4.6 V-8 and a six-speed manual in it, you could go Mustang hunting in a Hyundai!

With that said, the V-6 version should be a perfect cheap alternative to the Infinity G37....let the coup battles begin! (Toss the Honda Accord Coup V-6 into the mix)

I agree. Especially in the US. Toyota, Nissan, and Honda all learned about that around 16-18 years ago and it has worked out well for them so far. US buyers especially like luxury brand names to be separated from the parent company. It is how we have always done cars here. It would probably do Hyundai more good to create another brand/division and make this a flagship for it. This car will end up being Hyundai's Cressida I bet. Maybe they'll try a brand after this.

Ah! a hand picked culmination of the best features, geometries and design cues from the automotive world's average and best, with a few words changed here and there. The specifications are not bad. I agree, if they rode this out, they would need a new brand name, and a whole lot of respect.

I noticed a lot of people are that way. I think it's ignorant, snobby and narrow minded. It's not like you are some kind of Royalty that can't be seen in a Hyundai. My sis is that way too. I don't understand these people. I owned 2 Hyundais and never was emberrased by it. It's all about You enjoying your car, nothing else matters.

So is every other Japanese car. Historically Asians are not good at car design, so they have to borrow or employ Europeans to design cars for them. This particular car looks good.

Saying, "I just bought Toyota" sounds equally lame as, "I just bought Hyundai,Honda,Kia,Chevy,Ford, etc..." On the other hand, "I just bough a Porsche is a whole different story" now THAT'S A DIFFERENCE. So potato, patato, no difference really.

What I mean is 16-18 years ago is when Lexus, Acura, and Infinti came out. The Japanese Big 3 created them specifically for the US market because people in the US market like to have separate luxury brands...like Cadillac, Lincoln, etc... I'm not bashing Hyundai at all, I'm just saying what will probably happen.

I understand what You saying, but I just don't support this attitude of caring about the badge when shopping for a car within the same segment and class. I could afford Toyota but choose the Hyundai as better value. My sister was like, "eww a Hyundai!". I could care less what others say or think.

Too bad not everybody is not brand conscious like you. People in general like showing off.
