Does anyone have information for this? The cam is a plastic gear with a metal shaft and plastic lobes. Theres a visible mark on the cam but I see nothing on the crank. I tried going to TDC and timing from there but it seems to have very high compression. I hit a partially buried pipe in my front yard that mustve gotten dug up when the town removed a tree, it stopped the mower dead in its tracks. When I tried restarting it backfired very loudly, i tired again for a while when cold and no different. I ended up ordering a new 163cc briggs 725 exi that bolted up with no issues, just needed a new blade adapter. The new motor feels very cheap though, only 24 lbs compared to the 32 of the old one.

On the original motor you might of broken the sheer pin between the main shaft and the flywheel. The engine would be out of timing for the spark and not run because of that.

Yep, you sheared your flywheel key. Its a $2 part, and takes about 5 minutes to change. You might have bent your crankshaft in the process.

The flywheel timing sets the spark. Like others said the keyway is designed to break away rather than break the crankshaft.

The cam timing is not going to change by hitting something. There is usually a dot on each gear that should meet when in time.

The flywheel key is probably a wooddrift key, not a pin. They look like a half circle. Though is could also be a rectangular key. Most small engine shops have them, and many hardware stores stock them.
