2008 Toyota Corolla 1.8L 1670K miles 5 speed stick shift. The car has had M1 EP 5W30 its entire lifespan. Car runs like brand new, no issues at all.

I am changing up to VRP with Purolator VRP oil filter. I will run this option for 5 k miles for five times to clean out any old varnish and staining.
The car is aged but runs like a clock, flawlessly.
I will attempt to take some pictures if I can. Thank you.

What were your OCI's with Mobil 1 EP 5W-30?

Its a back up car with some miles on it and I want to see some cleaning inside it. A small experiment .It runs great but I just want to clean up anything lurking after all these years and all these miles.

Personally I think that the M1 probably did its fair share of cleaning and I'd stick with it.
However, I don't think that it would hurt anything if you changed to the VRP.
Let us know how you make out in a couple of years.

From what I can limited see, just discoloration, varnish color. It runs beautifully , just has some high miles and possibly some build up somewhere, possibly..
I’m not going to lie, a little surprised there is any discoloration at all considering it’s had M1 EP it’s entire life.

I have had several toyota/pontiac cars with the 1.8L motor, mostly Pontiac vibes, but a couple of Toyota Matrix's thrown in. These engines typically go 250,000+ miles on whatever API spec. 5-30 oil you put in them with reasonable oil changes (I do 5,000). I have had 2 which the odometer stoped working at 299, 999. Wrecked one at 266,000 and my father is currenty at 280,000 on his 2004 Vibe. Great economical engine. Current Matrix is at 113,000 and is running with 5-30 supertech syn...

Surprised me too but it won’t in the future. I’ve now heard multiple people say on here that they used PP or non-euro M1 the entire engine’s life with not excessively long OCIs, and the engine has varnish. I now think less of those oils than I used to.
