I have had this car about 6 months and used Motorcraft Blend 5w-20 (Factory fill) for the first change at 1,000 miles using a Purolator Premium Plus filter. I only have about 2k miles on it now and will be changing it soon. I will be using a synthetic oil but I'm really not sure what oil will work best for me. I only drive this car once a week for about an hour or so and then it sits for another week. It's driven in a vigorous fashion, but not harshly. I plan on doing 6 month oci's starting with my next change. I want an oil that will keep well through the winter and do well with moisture (since it sits in a garage, not running, for six days per week). In the spring I will be driving it much more frequently. I plan on keeping this car forever and want the engine internals to remain perfect.
Anyway, I've narrowed it down to several choices (please keep responses limited to these oils). Which oil, per dollar invested, will provide ample protection for me.
Redline 5w-20, Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20, or Amsoil 100% Synthetic 0w-20.
Thanks.

For your driving condition of 1 hour per week and 6 months OCI's, PP 5W20 will be sufficient and it is easy to find at any auto parts store.

I run Amsoil in my '02, but my driving habits are different.

For the criteria you've outlined, I'm in agreement that PP is the best choice.

Yes, nice ride.. I concur with the PZ Plat recommendation. If your going to change every 6 months, it will provide excellent protection, and not burn a hole in your wallet.

I use and love Redline. However with your short hard trips, I would use nothing but PP.

Redline is a great performing oil. When water and fuel dilution are brought into the mix, Redlines greatness dwindels away.

The PP would do best I would think.

If you don't need to change oil right away, watch this sub-forum for sale price on PP

Another good synthetic oil but not on your list, it is Valvoline Synpower. Currently, there is $10 rebate available until Dec-31- 2008 from Valvoline website for 5 quarts Synpower. My local Walmart had Synpower in quart bottle for $4.01/qt, check your WM to see if they have the same price. If they do, your cost after rebate is only $2/qt.
