2008 Honda Civic : Almost a million miles

Honda makes crappy transmissions according to BITOG yet this one made it 500k.
Honda made a crappy H5 transmission, which was undeniably a crappy transmission. The real problem is not how many they produced however, but the fact that it went into nearly every high-dollar car that Honda/Acura offered over a nearly 10 year period.

I thought it was the automatic behind V6's that were problematic--and not all of them, as the Ridgeline somehow escaped that issue.

Also statistical flukes work both ways. Sometimes things die at ridiculously low miles--others turn over crazy miles. What are to make of fliers in the data?

this was the year where they had block casting issues (cracked block)...guess this was a lucky one...

Yep. My 08 Civic has almost 230.000 miles the block never cracked. Talking with Honda techs they say yes it was a issue but for only like 30% of the R18's that rolled out form 06-09.

I was one of the 30% but Honda agreed to put a new short block in even though just outside the warranty at the time ( had to fight with them a bit ). Later, they extended the warranty to 10 years to cover the cracked blocks IIRC.
