I thought the old/first gen body style ended in 04. I have the 05 4.7 with the newer body style and thought the 05's had the new engine

I don't think there's been anything truly "new" with the 4.7 since it came out in the late 90s. It got a horsepower bump in 2008 to a bit over 300, but AFAIK that was mostly a software change. Maybe a new cam grind and some freer breathing, but certainly nothing really different in engine architecture.

16 plugs now vs 8 on the 07 and earlier.

The difference, is mainly in the heads and cams, and the programming of the ECU this was done for model year 2008.

Jeep had a 260hp job in the GC overland before 2004.
