2008 CR-V stuck rear door lock

I help a friend who is a single Mom with her 2008 CR-V LX FWD that is on excellent condition with 77K. Picked it up earlier this year.
The RR door lock is stuck locked solid. Just happened a few says ago... The actuator could be the problem, but for now I cannot unlock the door. Pressing hard on the door handle lock button lever will not budge it.

I also don't feel or hear anything when cycling the key fob lock-unlock. Gonna be tough getting the panel off and door open if the door is locked closed.
I plan on taking it to a great local independent tomorrow; Elsa needs her car.

This video is not all that clear, but it is a start. The interior door panel must be forced off...may result in having to replace it.

oh ya, cheap plastic gears.. been that way since the late 90s, my old civc did the same exact failure. Yet on mine it was always actuating on its own to the UNLOCK position.. rather have it locked! but yep, time to dig that actuator out and replace it.

I replaced the driver's rear actuator on my mom's 07 CRV. Not that bad of a job if you have good hands.

Make sure you reseal the inner plastic liner against the door or you.will end up with water on the floor when it rains heavy.

I changed the programming so the doors dont all unlock every time you put it in park/lock when you pull away. Cut way down on actuator wear and tear

I've had to replace a couple of these on my CRV and it is a dumb design and a pain to replace. I did a rear one the other day and there is a real lack of space in the door to work with getting the thing out. Thankfully I've never had one stick locked with the door closed. My only suggestion is that if you remove the trim around the lock button maybe you can manually force the rod itself (maybe that's what you already did?)... Hope they don't have to tear up the door panel.

FWIW I've used these 2x now on my CRV and they've worked fine. First one is 2.5 years old and I just installed the second.

I've had the same thing happen on different vehicles. In most cases I was able to lower the glass, use a small wooden wedge to slightly spread out the gap between the door panel and door, and fashion a tool to manually work the latch/latch rod.

You'll have to get some light in there so you're able to understand how the latch works. Once you do, it's usually a matter of fashioning a workable tool. Last time I had to do this I cut a small notch in a paint stir stick and it worked perfectly.

Remove adjacent panels as-needed, remove door panel while door is still closed. Then open the door using this method:
