2007 Honda Accord filter for OLM OCI's

Hey guys. Decided on this car I'll be following the OLM, and using 5-20 PP/M1. OCI's I think will be coming out to approx 8k. Narrowed my filter options down to:

A-Napa Gold (wix). Price tag is the issue here. $8.23 for a oil filter? wow.

B-Purolator's P1. Used them a lot, never had issues. Price is decent for approx $5.

C-Car Quest's premium filter which I really don't know much about. I just heard from some it's decent. Not even sure what they are charging for this guy. CQ doesn't have a parts website it seems...

Any opinions on either filter for my particular app? Really wish I could use a Motorcraft, but I can't.

A and C is the same thing.

I've used B and C and they're both good options. The Puro has more media area, the WIXes are a better design's bypass and a bit better made. I have a pic of the carquest and a regular purolator for your app:

THANKS. That does help. I keep forgetting the height of the media in the wix is much shorter due to the bypass design, which is better in some ways. I guess I'll go with the P1 and call it good.
 
why not use honda filters?? They are really good, and if you just cant get past the "made by fram" thing then you can order the A01 from H&A thats made by filtech.
 
No I can't get over the FRAM issue. 2nd, the real Honda "filtech" filters are expensive as [censored]. You have to order like 12 to make it compete with local prices of a P1.
 
The Fram Honda filters aren't in any objective way better than P1/Wix/M1, and in my opinion not as good. Really, you're going out of your way and spending extra money for a Honda logo.

I understand it can be a peace of mind thing. My fathers Camry has ~285,000 miles, and he still drives to the dealer for the magical special Toyota filter.

+1 I had run Purolator Premium Plus for 3 years on my '00 Accord v6. No problems at all.
 
Never like how the endcaps aren't glued. I mean each flap has to be individually glued vs how purolator and wix do it. they encapsulate the end with a "cap". $5.28+SH.

Or $4.85+sh if you order 6. I think they are made better than the WIX, have a better gasket design, are made with the proper pressure relief for your car, and are specd to be changed everyother oil change (if your car is the same as my honda) So I really think you cant go wrong. I bought into the bitog wix hype and after having two cars make start up noise with wix filters now I only use OEM. But use what you want its your car, thats just my advice.
 
I hear ya ryland. I'm a huge fan of the Motorcraft OEM filters. You're not totaly out there. I think other than the OEM Honda (Filtech or Fram) the Purolator is the closest filter. ?No? That's why I'm eyeing the P1 or white purolator.

I've used the pure1 on my honda with no ill effects but I dont like filters that have that gripy stuff on them because if you put it on too tight then it makes it hard to get a filter wrench on it. Also I dont like the standard oil filter gasket design and prefer the o ring on the honda and other OEM filters because it makes it impossible to over tighten, seems to be less prone to leaks and they come off easy by hand.
 
To each their own. I really like the texture and have a stash of Pure Ones and AAP Total Grip (both for Hondas) with it. I find that a can hand tighten and get a good feel for the torque after the gasket contacts the engine. For me, it makes installation a breeze. And I never need more than an easy turn with a filter cap wrench to get it started for removal.

Never had an issue with over tightening with the standard filter gasket with or without texture. Of course I lubricate the gasket before installation.

IMO, when I can get Pure Ones for half the cost (w rebates and deals) of A-01 or A-02(Fram TG clone) and not have to pay shipping by using Amazon or Advance Auto, it's a no brainer for me. I don't feel the Honda filter gasket is that big a difference.
 
Thought about it... going with P1's or regular white purolators. I've used both these filters for years with good results. They're available locally and priced in the $5 range. The design is very similar to the OEM also. Really don't feel like turning this into a science project, or a R&D division, or having to buy 6 or 12 filters online to make them compete with the local Purolator pricing.
 
I've settle on P1s for our Hondas. I buy them in two packs from Amazon.com for a touch under $5/each delivered.
 
Has anyone cut open a Denso filter for the Honda application? One thing that I can't quite understand is how these denso and Honda Filtec & toyota filters don't have endcaps. the media is like glued on the ends only. Seems very cheap to me and a weak spot for a bypass. Purolator actually embeds the media in a endcap with a layer of glue.

denso is a very good filter and they make half of the filter/cooling systems on your honda currently probably, they do on mine. Look, you either like OEM or not. I choose OEM for everything but ATF you choose aftermarket or so it seems. The A01 is the best you can do IMO and after that its all a guessing game.
