I understand that this might be a truck application, but the 4.7L SOHC is a gasser at it's heart, and not a diesel. That being said, any of the major brand names in oil will protect it well.
The real issue you should be investigating is whether or not you want to extend your drain intervals. If so, synthetics make sense. If not, then there are plenty of good conventional oils that will do a great job for minimal investment.
Generally, used oil analysis show that synthetics don't protect "better"; they protect "longer".
Thanks for the replies! I'm not sure where I had read 5-30 was the right choice. I'll double check the manual for the proper weight. He is looking for a longer drain interval, I figured a name brand synthetic was the obvious and easy choice just wanted a little validation

! Thanks again, I think we'll give Mobil 1 5w20 and a Wix filter a try.
