Guys , i have a 2007 silverado with the 5.3 and its coming up for an oci. i was wondering what oil you guys like with this engine if anyone has experience with them. It will be used for towing a boat occasionally with short trips of less than 10 miles and plenty of stop and go. I am thinking on pp with the AC Delco oil filter. It has 16,000 miles on it...THANKS BTW...I wont be going by the OLM as I am too OCD to be messing with all that...Ill prob be going about 5k oci and am set on synthetics for now

Agreed. This engine is not hard on oil. Buy what is on sale (synth). AAP always seems to turn my head.

We run 30w until around 200k miles and many times a simple switch to 40 usually stops any oil consumption.

With synthetic I'd go to at least 6k. I run between 6k-7k on a change with my GTO and with my intermittent lead foot I would assume if you aren't towing that I'm much harder on the oil I use. Almost any synthetic is up to the task I give mine. I regularly use Mobil 1 5w30, Mobil 1 0w40, Mobil 1 15w50(usually to boost 5w30), and German Castrol. Although I haven't used them, I would not hesitate to use any of the Shell, Pennzoil, or Quaker State Synthetic offerings. My wife's Jag calls for 10k miles oil changes so I just change it once a year.

Thanks for your replys guys , whip , i ve got bad ocd when it comes to my vehicle fluids ,lol...price does not bother me when it comes to peace of mind..and i ve only been getting about 6k miles per year on my truck , although this one is new to me.So i ll prob be only doing one oci yearly , if i can wait that long.

Wow! Low miles for an 07! I have an 08 with the 5.3, and I've started using Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30, with a PureONE filter. Im not going by the OLM either. I have [censored] near 5000 miles on this OC, and the OLM is right at 50%. I'll probably go 6-7000 miles on it. Good luck!

Unleashedbeast got great results in his GM 5.3L with Amsoil 0W-30. RangerT got good results with Quaker State Torque 10w30. And dan_erickson got good results with Mobil 1 5w30. All posted used oil analysis with iron levels of less than 3 ppm per 1000 miles.

Any one of those should serve you well.
