For at least two weeks I've had sporadic ABS/TC indicator lights come on. This vehicle has had three of the four wheel bearings replaced. Last week I noticed a puddle of brake fluid at the driver's rear wheel. This is the wheel that has not had the wheel bearing replaced nor makes noise. Good braking throughout. Upon inspection, the brake fluid was coming from the rear seal of the caliper where the emergency/parking brake is attached.

I replaced the entire caliper. The ABS/TC lights are off. I do not have a scanner having bi-directional controls or abs code reading to see where the fault is.

For those often working on this class of GM vehicle, is this type caliper breakdown common?

Could the lack of consistent hydraulic brake pressure while braking in comparison to the other three cause a fault in the ABS/TC system?

Or rather the brake fluid loss near the ABS/TC connection to this wheel bearing cause a continuity issue therefore a fault?

thanks for the replies. (2007 Buick Lacrosse Mileage: 54710 )

A cousin has a 2005 Lacrosse which he recently purchased . He is getting a ABS / TC lite .

WE pulled each wheel & used an ohm meter to check the resistance of each coil ( at each wheel bearing ) . All were close enough to each other .

Went ahead and did a pad slap . At 130,000 + miles they were not that bad , but we had it apart . Discs were fine , as-is .

That is as far as we got .

Here is a fuzzy pic of the controller and the 4 pairs of wires , one each going to the wheels . This is a 2005 model .

Think the next step for my cousin is , since we have verified the wheel coils are OK , to check continuity / resistance on each wheel coil , at the ABS module ?

After a couple of days of driving with no ABS/TC lights, they popped back on and there are no leaks after the rear caliper change out.

Park the car for awhile and restart, lights out.

I'ii just have to get after the continuity/meter test at each wheel.

Some OBDII / ABS scanners / code readers will tell you which corner .

Had a code on the 2007 Silverado company truck I drice . Took it too O'Reilly and after some trying , the guy was successful . He said left front . Jacked it up and used the ohm meter & sure enough that speed sensor was defective . Replaced it , cleared the code & all is well .

We took my cousin's Lacrosse to the same O'Reilly & they said no joy . I do not know id the person did not know how , did not want to do it od he grabbed a different code reader .

If you can get to the ABS module , I would try from there . Shows 2 wires to each corner . You could have to disconnect the wires ( or at least one out of a pair ) to check resistance .

Remember , a problem can be with the wiring harness to the wheel or the wheel hub coil . I guess there could be a problem with the " reactor " disk that the wheel sensor " sees " when the wheel / hub turns .

You discover the bac one , then you will probably have to jack up that corner , unplug the harness to determine if the defect is in the coil or the harness .

The sensor coil is made into the wheel bearing / hub assembly and you must replace it as a unit .
