My niece's TSX threw P0128 a couple months ago. We cleared it and her CEL has come back on and off (by itself) a couple times. We didn't get the codes read. The CEL light just came on again and the codes were P0128 and P0456. We don't know if P0456 is brand new or if it was the reason the CEL came on/off a couple times after the first P0128.

In any event, can I assume these codes have nothing to do with each other? P0128 is a Cooling System Malfunction which I believe is most likely a weak thermostat. P0456 is a very small leak in the EVAP system which I hope is nothing more than a bad gas cap. Thanks.

I don't think those codes are related as they are two different systems. If you replace gas cap get one from the dealer.

Thanks. The only question I have about the gas cap is that she did not get the "Tighten Gas Cap" message. I am guessing that a very small EVAP system leak could be enough to throw P0456 but not enough to prompt the "Tighten Gas Cap" message, but I don't really know. Hope others will chime in. Agree with the OEM gas cap.

Try fixing the P0128 CEL first. That condition could confuse the ECM causing additional codes. Coolant level is? Last replaced? miles on car?

80k miles. Coolant level is fine. Will be replacing coolant when I install a new thermostat although Honda says it is good for another couple years. Personally I don't believe any coolant is good for 110k/10years but that is just me. One very common cause of P0128 is corroded pins on ECT2 - Acura has a TSB out on this. That is not a problem here. The specific problem described by this code is that engine is taking too long to reach normal operating temperature. Engine is reaching the correct temperature; but, to the best of my ability to measure it, I believe the thermostat is opening a tad too soon. Good idea to get P0128 squared away first. Thanks for your help.
