Hello All !! Been a long time lurker and I have gotten a lot of good information that I was able to use. But now, working on my first Suzuki, I would like to replace the antifreeze. The owners manual states to change every 3 years or 30,000 miles. That leads me to believe that the original fill maybe conventional green ? Not that it matters but it is green in color. It seems that Suzuki vehicle are like black sheep in that not a lot of information is out there, yea I have found some sites but nothing I am able to use. So my question is: does anyone know what the original type is ? What can I use as a replacement ? PS I hate dealerships, but I will buy there if I have to. Thanks !

If it says 30k I'm inclined to think it is regular green. However the factory fill for many Honda's is green in color, but it's a HOAT coolant. I think you will probably be fine with Peak Global Lifetime (Gold Bottle), or Zerex Asian formula antifreeze. You can get either of these at your local NAPA. You can also get the Peak GLL at kmart, though only the 50/50 version is available here. They have a spot for the concentrate, but it is never there.

You may also consider Zerex G-05 (Gold bottle)

The factory service manual say's only this about the H25 engine. I think you have the later but nearly identical H27.

Quote:
Engine coolant (Ethylene glycol base coolant)

CAUTION:
When changing engine coolant, use mixture of 50% water
and 50% ANTIFREEZE/ANTICORROSION COOLANT for
the market where ambient temperature falls lower than –
16°C (3°F) in winter, and mixture of 70% water and 30%
ANTIFREEZE/ANTICORROSION COOLANT for the market
where ambient temperature doesn’t fall lower than –16°C
(3°F).
Even in a market where no freezing temperature is anticipated,
mixture of 70% water and 30% ANTIFREEZE/ANTICORROSION
COOLANT should be used for the purpose
of corrosion protection and lubrication.

If in doubt, I would agree - just buy it from the dealer.

Suzuki's eat heater cores - cost $1200 to get mine fixed on our 2001 Vitara - just out of extended B>B warranty at 107Kmiles. And they messed up the dash. Suzuki has a service and info page - go there. Most forum have the maint and service manual PDF downloaded free.

Based on the service schedule for the coolant it is not an extended life HOAT. I think suzuki, like most all Japanese cars, used a silicate free and phosphate formula. This info is a little old but:

coolant TSB

The "correct" formula is most likely a Suzuki or any other Japanese standard coolant. Since you do not want to get OE coolant, you might be able to get away with putting several types of extended llife anti-freezes in. But since it was not filled with an OAT coolant, I'd error towards using a silicated one like G-05. Better to maybe replace a waterpump early than have a leaky headgasket that is incompatible with OATs is the way I see it.
