5W-30 is the preferred viscosity, but up to 10W-40 can be used according to the ambient temperature chart.

Currently using Castrol 10W-30, will be switching to Mobil 1 EP 10W-30 at 3000 miles.

Two '06s:

Volvo S60R (2.5 I-5/300 hp/turbo): 5 or 10W-30/ILSAC GF-3 or better recommended. Getting RL 10W-30.

VW Jetta 2.5 (2.5 I-5/150 hp/NA): 5W-40/VW 502.00 or ACEA A3 minimum required. Getting Schaeffers 10W-30.

Manual says 5w-30 or 10w-30 is above 32*F.

Running M1 5w-30 now.

Thanks, Wifey was jealous of shiney new Tacoma, and I became guilty in concious . Car payments are still lower than they were a few months ago(ding dong the Beamers gone!)

2006 Subaru Outback Wagon 2.5 liter non-turbo.
Car has 80 miles on it presently. The manual and the filler cap state 5W-30, and the first change is due at 3,000 miles.

I plan to go the 3,000 miles with the factory fill then go to GC 0w-30 with a Napa gold filter.
