I had the engine replaced at 34,055 miles because of oil consumption and tons of blue smoke during start ups. After the engine replacement everything seems fine, no more blue smoke upon start ups until now at 35,800.

One morning I started the car and saw a cloud of blue smoke fly by the drivers window. I was thinking oh no not again. Even with a new engine what can cause oil being burned when starting the car? I mentioned it to the dealer and they said just bring it back 1000 miles later for them to further inspect.

Would a bad pcv valve be sucking up oil and getting it burned? Any ideas?

You do have problems. I assume you are changing oil on time. Did you ever find out what was wrong with the first engine?

Probably not his oil change interval, as he only has 1745 miles on his new engine, and one would assume they put new oil in his new engine. Is it a sure thing that they actually changed his engine?

Don't know if that vehicle has a vacuum controlled transmission modulator valve and corresponding engine vacuum connection. If so could be a bad diaphragm on the transmission modulator valve. Transmission fluid into engine via a vacuum line would give plenty of smoke.

Also, do you have a locking gas cap. Could be someone messing with you by adding something to your gas.

Didn't someone post something recently on Nissan engines ingesting catalytic converter bits due to valve overlap? Could it be they replaced the engine, but not the faulty cats - new engine sucks in broken bits of ceramic and metal?

It is possible that the intake manifold was not thoroughly cleaned out, and residual oil was suddenly sucked in to the engine, causing smoke on start up.
But I'd be on the phone to the engine supplier/installer right away.

Whether or not this is a problem depends on whether you get oil consumption.

There are a number of vehicles - some GM V-6s, Toyotas, among others - that do this and seem to have no trouble.

If you're getting oil consumption, then investigate further.
