Terry - you know my gripe about Blackstone - lack of accuracy on the metals and additive elements.

I also think you crossed up EaA and EaO. I was talking Air Filters - so you are saying a WIX Air Filter 42844 will be too restrictive? (Amsoil doesn't yet make a EaA for the Ody)

For Oil Filter, EaO13 is the proper call out.

You noticed too.

I'm not talking about Blackstone. I want you to compare to our Premium Service, its a whole new deal. Derived from formulating screens we use to qualify lubes.

See a representative format and result at our website. I need to move my customers away from Bklabs co-op as I cannot survive on the income from it. Bklabs ICP accuracy is as good or better than OAI. You get what you pay for with testing usually. Bklabs has no FTIR capability, however the centrifuged insolubles are excellent tuning tool.

No mistake on the air filter restrict trick. Good insider info for you all. Fram air filter media is excellent at both filtering and flowing. Wix will restrict rather quickly although less than the oiled Honda stuff.

The dirt, dust, oils, pollen, etc. floating in the air at the intake level for cars is out of control dirty any more. Oil analysis shows it. ECU can't compensate and 427 getting unimpeded air flow into the engine make big difference! I promise...

Pabs, thanks for the clarification for the Honda 3.5, I was mistakenly recalling the generic Honda 4cyl of EaO 20.

I let my Amsoil dealer help me with those kinds of things.

I will stop and get a - yikes - FRAM AF - gulp - on the way home.......so what is up with the WIX AF that makes it's more restrictive than the FRAM?

I will study your package in more detail. Thanks.

Pabs,

Is 6K the total vehicle miles or the miles on the Amsoil? Did you *gasp* dump the factory fill early?!?

My Si was 91ppm at 2666Mi (factory fill that I dumped) and then 30ppm at 5420Mi. My Cu went from 81ppm to 29ppm at the same intervals. I've got the same Amsoil in the Ody now, but I have some time before I will do another UOA.

I meant to add that Terry will probably see the next sample using his analysis package he described above. I bought one of these deluxe packages for the Harley, but it might be a year before I need it and it is burning the proverbial hole in my pocket.

2)do not change the new (EaO 20?)thats in there now until 10,000 miles total on filter, it may be able to go longer use analysis to guide. Change oil whenever you choose but take the OF double the normal interval.

Terry

We will get to test that on my Ody, Mr. Dyson. I've got an Eao on there right now and plan to see if it will go the distance. When do you recommend I send you the sample? At 10K on the Eao filter or at the end of the second OCI (which could well be 13K)?

I almost want to change the oil filter at every OCI because it is so darned easy to do on the Ody. But with the cost of the EaO, I want to see if it will work as advertised. However, with my pneumatic extractor changing the oil without an oil filter change is like a 10 minute job now.

Now the van has just over 11K miles. I dumped the FF at about 4K miles (yes a bit early). So this XLM was the second load of oil this beast has seen and took us from 4K to 10K.

Lou - what's your input on the factory Air Filter?

Can someone tell me what a EaO filter is? Where do you get these things and who makes them? Also, does anyone know what the model/part number would be for the Fram air filter for these Hondas? I have a Ridgeline so I assume it would be the same as for the Ody.

Thanks for the clarification. I dumped the FF early as well and am waiting for the engine to seize any day now

I haven't replaced the air filter yet, but was going to go with Terry's recommendation of the Fram (I guess it is okay to say that he told me this personally since he just posted the same recommendation here on this forum - if anything it vouches for Terry's consistency).

However, my Ody shows very little fuel dilution thus far so in my case the factory filter seems okay. That doesn't mean that Fram won't do better though. I'll give the Fram a shot because:

a) The Fram is cheaper
b) Terry probably knows something I don't

If the Fram doesn't work I will probably go back to the OEM, or if Amsoil has an EaA by then I will try that.

Amsoil makes the EaO filter. They have a cross reference on their site (not sure which Honda you have)

Well I went back and read all the posts in this thread and that oil filter is Amsoil - ought to be pretty good, maybe better than Filtech??

I think so..... because they did it on purpose, didn't they 427Z06?

Hmmm...taking a refresher look at the FIA Control System, you just might be onto something Terry. Cold off idle with air intake to the FIA control valve pre-throttle body could set up a richer than expected condition with a clogged air cleaner.

Terry, your freakin' amazing sometimes.

Note to self: pick up a couple of FRAM air filters.

Is this the case with ALL Hondas, having the Fram being better than OEM and Wix? The air filter in my Integra right now is the Honda Genuine Toyo Roki air filter. I had a K&N in it but I took it off after 500 miles after hearing some horror stories about it letting in too much dirt and other contaminants. I already purchased a Wix (Napa Gold) to put in it when this one gets too dirty...

I'm curious as well- it's time for me to change the air filter in my '95 Civic D15B7 tin-can wonder. Fram superior for this engine too???...

Probably...I went ahead and put the FRAM in my Ody. This just sounds really good, so I did it. Terry knows his stuff.
