2006 Honda Civic 1.8l P0420 code

Thanks for the tips . The thing is my inspection sticker expired by end of September . I need get it fix before then. Really don’t want pay $100 to by pass the inspection ( if you know what I mean lol )

Maybe not the best idea to advertise that on the internet, Still don't understand why a Inspector would risk the fines for a little extra cash.

Did you cut the wiring off & use a deep 6-point socket? Or did did you use a O2 Socket? (I recall the thread you started in the Tool Forum).....O2 Sockets will spread if to much torque is applied. Even with a 6-point socket, You need to know the limit & apply heat to get a stubborn O2 out.

I was using o2 sensor socket tool . And after using it . I learn that it’s does spread and round off the nut .

I also learn that using a hose clamp to tight around the socket prevent it from spread . It’s help but it’s already too late . I will take to the muffler shop and see what they can do about it . I’m pretty sure they dealing with stuck o2 sensor daily

Quick update . Idk how but the light went off . I dint event change out the rear o2 . I took to the inspection place . The guy told me that my cat is bad . He told me drive 100 miles then come back . Couple day later after 181 miles . He check again and still no light . But he let me pass .

I concur. Did this on a old 2007 Subaru with a PO420 code many years ago.. Still passes inspection to this day. I don't believe the cat was actually shot.. maybe something more along the lines of the exhaust leak.... letting in oxygen into the exhaust stream.. thus throwing the po420 code.

Make sure exhaust is tightly sealed... If it really is the cat.,,. look for the CA emission version, yeah it cost a lot more... but you will not be replacing it in 13 months.

EDIT: What's up with the low voltage btw? I would fix the volt issue... maybe the o2 sensor is not getting enough volts to read correctly? Im just throwing out ideas.
The mechanic I went to at the time said the EPA has such strict parameters that trigger the lights the CAT is often old but still running OK, just not perfectly. I reset the light every month or two with a code reader and it'd take another month or two to come back. Typically when driving uphill under heavier engine load. That kind of told me it was probably just getting old as I didn't have any other idling or performance issues.
