exactly. auto makes love it when there is lots of wear. the sooner it wears out after warrenty the more they like it.

I have friends that are very good mechanics and they all agree that for a brand new engine of any size, use any good brand of dino straight SAE 30 weight oil for about 1000 miles then drain and refill with whatever it calls for 5w30, 10w30 etc. but still use dino until about the 3000-4000 mike mark then switch to synthetic, doing this makes for the most complete break-in with less wear........
 
Do these newer 'vettes use an oil cooler? I'm pretty sure they do.
If it is a copper core cooler that would explain the very high levels if it is initally leaching copper into the oil.

I've read the duramax diesels use a copper oil cooler and will show scary UAO for the first while.

Perhaps your is the same

Only the ones with the Z51 package have oil coolers on them.

The copper on these engines comes from the cam bearings by the way. It's always high at first and then it levels off around 30-40k usually.
