Got my first report back on my 2005 V8 4runner
Location- Las Vegas, NV
Total Vehicle mileage 26,700
Mile on oil 3852
Make up oil 0qts

Notes: Found loose vac line which was venting into the engine bay. Running Volant Cold Air Intake with Cotton/Gauze style filter.

Notes from Blackstone:
No problems showed up in the initial sample from your Toyota. All wear read at or below averages for this type of engine, which is a very good indication of normal wearing parts and careful operation. The universal averages show normal wear after 5600 miles on the oil. Insolubles were okay at 0.3%, showing good oil filtration. Silicon was normal at 12 ppm, so the air filter was working properly and
loose vacuum line didn't appear to hurt anything. The TBN was 5.0, lots of active additive left in the oil. Nice wearing V-8! Try ~5000 miles for your next sample.

Nice report. I'm sure it sheared a little, but that is the norm. I wonder if it ever thickens back up at some mileage?

I'm no expert, but that is well within grade right? I guess that should be expected with a 10w30. For some reason i was thinking this was a 5w30.

51.4 SUS = 10.74 cSt, certainly still a 30-weight oil. The Royal Purple 10W-30 starts out with a viscosity of 10.7 (according to the data on their site), so it appears that no shearing of this oil has taken place during this OCI. Or perhaps it sheared, and then thickened back up to where it started...I don't know.

5W30 is the recommended vis by toyota but i chose to run the 10W30 because i was concerned with shearing down to supposed 20wt.

Why worry? Isn't toyota using 5w20 in a bunch of engines now?

As long as it has oil, I don't think that the 4.7 cares what kind. Its just an excellent engine.

Being a full synthetic, I see no reason why you couldn't run 7.5k miles on RP.

Just another ho-hum 2UZ UOA. This engine just continues to amaze every time it pops up. You could just as well go with the 5w-30, shearing, if you get any, will not cause a problem in this engine. I suppose given this great result, you could just reach in the general direction of the Royal Purple (if that continues to be your choice) and simply grab whatever bottle you hand comes to first.

Changed over to GC and im going to run that for quite some time and see what happens. Its not hot enough here yet for me to worry too much about it.
