Recently got a new to us 05 sunfire 2.2 ecotec with 5 speed manual transmission
Previous owner kept up with all the oil changes and maintenance and car currently has 53,000 miles
already changed the oil out with full synthetic mobil 1 and a delco oil filter, installed new delco air filter also
Reverse lights did not work at all so replaced the back up switch and those are working fine now
i have new acdelco double platinum plugs to install but gonna leave the coil pack alone for now since miles are still low on it
Got prestone dexcool 50/50 coolant to do a drain and fill since probably still factory coolant in the car
(plan to not touch the water pump or thermostat until absolutely have to since i know water pump is timing chain driven)
also got a new belt tensioner and serpentine belt(changing tensioner just as preventative since its pushing 20 years old now)
Should i mess with any of the other fluids urgently to help cars longevity?(brake fluid, clutch fluid, manual trans fluid)
i know its always been super controversial whether to change trans fluid and clutch fluid or to just leave it alone
any other maintenance i need to do to help make the car hopefully last another 15 20 years if possible?
car shifts fine drives great my biggest concern for maintenance is the age of components and fluids versus the actual mileage
Thank You everyone!

I thought that mentality of "don't touch it" only applied to higher mileage automatic transmissions that had really old fluid. Id swap out the manual trans and clutch fluid for sure if it were mine.

Not many of those era cars left up here. They all melted into dust. Cool you found a low mileage one.

I don’t know anything controversial at all about changing hydraulic fluids for the clutch and brakes. An old unmaintained AT might be a different discussion…

Looks like you have a good list going. Don’t forget to lube hinges and movement points, check all suspension rubber. May want to lube caliper pins and whatnot.

It's a good rule of thumb to change all fluids and filters when you buy a used car to provide a starting point for future maintenance. Unless the previous owners kept records of everything and you can trust the records and the work done.

Updated timing chain tensioner and guides especially if you have the occasional timing chain rattle at startup. Keep a eye on the oil level the 2.2/2.4 like to drink oil. If it has a OLM to let you know it's due for a oil change don't follow it they really extend the the miles to the next change change at 20% life left . I have a Pontiac G6 2007 original owner with the ecotec 2.4 I have had no issues engine all components all original. I did change the timing chain tensioner with updated part and new plugs that's it.
