I am considering purchasing this vehicle with 14,000 Miles
on it. What would be a good oil for mostly short trip
driving and what are your overall opinions of this vehicle ??

Do a "Title Search" for "Hyundai Elantra". Make sure you adjust the time period of the search. There have been a bunch of threads on this subject. Not saying this thread shouldn't continue. Just do the search for more information.

5W20 is a good start. SM/GF4. Short tripper, you might use Motorcraft on a 4-5K OCI, or every 6 months if you aren't reaching that number of miles by the sixth month.. Utah Bill likes SuperTech, TA, and Chevron where he can find it for .59 cents.. He's not the only one either. Also consider Havoline 5W20 SM. Great oil, dirt cheap at Advanced Auto on the closeouts.

I have an AccentGT, not quite the same engine, but same service, and the Havoline, Motorcraft and Pennzoil dino in 5W20 have all been wonderful. These Hyundais ain't exactly shearing our oils to bits.. Take a close look at the cooling system, too. Service it with distilled flushing and G-05 Zerex, the factory swill in my AccentGT was awful right off the lot and yours probably isn't much different..

Good luck with the new car..

I have had 2 elantras a 2000 and now a 2006. 2000 had some power window issues namely all of them. other than that, always ran good. Like the 2006 no worries for 5 years on the bumper to bumper.#1 I would find out how the warranty changes, since you are not the orignal owner.#2 using anything other than a hyundai oil filter may be unwise. The service manager here said certain filters cause pressure differences -{Fram} so I would stick with the factory filter , so no one can argue with you.

Well we decided not to purchase the car, The warranty
was 5 yr 60,000 bumper to bumper but did not want it
because of the timing belt. One quote in here stated that
they broke a timing belt at 30,000 miles and being as this
is an interference engine I decided to walk away.
Going to make a deal on a Nissan Sentra today
