Changed the oil in 2005 CR-V for the first time.
The made-in-Japan factory filter is as follows:
Made by "Mahle Tennex Corporation". Says so right on the filter
There is a number on the filter, T5211.
Also printed on the filter is the phrase "Honda-Made in Japan".
I cut the filter open and found:
Cardboard end caps.
Bottom mounted metal coil spring bypass valve.
Red ADBV.
41 pleats 1/2 inch wide by 2 3/8 inch long.
Approximately 98 square inches of filter media.
Cardboard end caps aside, the filter is very well constructed.
FWIW.
Thanks.

Actually, I did take a bunch of photos.
I'll try to post some.
Thanks.

Spitix, I am going to change the oil in my new Pilot soon, I am going to cut open the filter as well, I'll keep you posted, Joe

Not a Fram/Honda filter? Good. I am sure you carefully did the filter change right. Some CRV's can leak oil at the filter if there is a double gasket or if not installed right. Some original equipement filter gaskets tended to stick and cause double a gasket problem. Space and visibility are so tight that it may be hard to see if the filter is on right. The oil filter is so close to the exhaust that if enough oil leaks, it may hit the exhaust and catch fire.

No worries.
No gasket left on the block.
Very easy way to check for that is to look and see that the gasket is still on the old filter. If it's not then you gotta go huntin' for it.
I changed the filter from underneath. Not a ton of room but enough to get it done. Wearing mechanic's gloves will save your hand from a lot of very sharp edges.
Thanks.

I wonder if the V6 Pilot engine is made in North America someplace hence the Filtech filter?
Thanks.

I believe so
I have a Sat Vue 3.5 with the V6 and it came with a Filtech filter.

Right now our 2005 LX has a Wix #51344 on it because I had one on the shelf. Since then I bought six of the Honda made-in-Japan OEM filter that is listed for the S2000.
I got them at the dealer for $6.16 US$ each.
I'll be using them in the future.
The Wix #51344 is just about 8 US$ each at my parts store.
Thanks
